S. Carolina [Legislature] votes to send 6-week abortion ban bill to governor. Court challenge coming

https://www.yahoo.com/news/sc-senate-votes-send-6-224030219.html

A South Carolina six-week abortion ban that has cleared the Republican-controlled Legislature is now for the second time headed to the governor’s desk, whose expected signature enacting the bill into law is likely to be challenged immediately.

In a vote of 27-19, the Senate on Tuesday voted to approve House changes made to a six-week abortion ban — S. 474 — that would prohibit abortions once fetal cardiac activity is detected, typically around the sixth week of pregnancy, when most people don’t know that they’re pregnant.

The present bill includes exceptions for rape and incest no more than 12 weeks, fatal fetal anomaly and the mother’s life.

“All of you listening to me that have daughters and granddaughters, ... I want you to stop and think about the laws that you’re making for their future,” said Sen. Katrina Shealy, R-Lexington, one of five women who serve in the Senate. “If you haven’t talked to them, why don’t you ask them how they feel about having you and the state of South Carolina being in their bedrooms, at the dinner table, in the doctor’s office and in the locker room?”

The Legislature’s move, in part, serves as an effort by Republicans to put the measure back before the South Carolina Supreme Court, which in January ruled a similar ban passed in 2021 unconstitutional.

Were it not for that, Glen "TRUMP-Kin" would have signed a 6 week ban in VA too.

This is why you CAN'T ELECT A SINGLE FUCKING RETRUMPLICAN to ANY office, from Governor, to Dogcatcher, to Chair of your HOA...

Until the current Retrumplican Party changes, anyone that voted for a Retrumplican ought to be cut out of your life.

It doesn't matter if it's your husband, wife, mom, dad, grandfather, grandmother, son, daughter, significant other, grandson, granddaughter, extended cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, friends, co-workers, parish members, neighbors, or the cashier at your local hardware store, they need to be shunned from humanity, until they demonstrate that they respect humanity.

The current batch of Retrumplicans don't.

There is no more; "well, I love you, but I just want lower taxes", excuse for voting Retrumplican.

Every fucking person who votes for the current Retrumplican Party knows just what the Fuck they are doing

There is no fucking "I didn't know how horrible the people I voted for were" excuse.

The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled just a few months ago that their last abortion ban was unconstitutional by a 3-2 vote.

I posted about it here: https://www.democraticunderground.com/10762437

The composition of the South Carolina Supreme Court has changed since January when the decision striking down their abortion ban was made so we'll see what happens. The lower courts in South Carolina will likely follow precedent but state supreme court may rule differently this time.
