Bush received 62,040,610 votes TOTAL in 2004.
At present, Obama is at...

His lead over Romney also far outpaces Bush's victory margin over Kerry.

(11,605 posts)Really hoping Romney gets down to 47.49%.

(11,605 posts)Probably due mostly to population growth, but still, that's cool. He's the only presidential candidate to ever get above 65 million. I read somewhere that he is projected to end up with about 67 million this time, about 2.5 million short of 2008 but still the second highest in history.

Consider it karma, GOPers.

Just good leadership and solid character.
Are you paying attention, republicans?...

(26,623 posts)especially considering the consequences of the 8 years of Bush. I am constantly astounded by people who were crushed by the 2008 crash and the collapse of the housing market, or have seen the results of the wars, and somehow don't blame Republican policies.

(116,464 posts)Think about it. Kerry narrowed the popular vote margin to 2.4. Romney will likely be down more than 3 points when all the votes are counted.
Kerry's popular vote margin was .1 percent less than Gore's, but Kerry got 8 million more votes. In 2004, Kerry got more than 59 million votes, currently more than Romney.
Unlike Romney, Kerry ran a smart race focusing on an electoral path to victory, and came within one state of winning: Ohio.
Bush got 286 to Kerry's 251. Flip Ohio and Kerry wins 271 to 266. That was a close race.
Romney had no chance. Even if he took Florida, he lost Ohio by nearly 2 points, Virginia by 3 points and Colorado by 5 points. He lost NH by nearly 6 points, and all the rest was simply MSM noise.
