The one who called the president a "nigger" and hoped very much someone would assassinate him during his next term? I am the only one wants to see her charged with something so she will have to attend some sort of diversity classes? And then she said she has no idea what she did that was so wrong and also still thinks that if someone does kill our president she would have no problem with that. She's lost her job, made herself infamous and who would possibly hire her now, except maybe someone who is also a racist with the same views on presidential assassinations.

(83,773 posts)You must be exhausted with all the work for Powell! Great work I might add.I people like yourself that work for a cause.I/We thank you for that!
So very sorry he did not win. He would have been an excellent addition to Congress from what I have read on his site!
All in all we really did kick some butt on tuesday!

(13,588 posts)definitely would not have threatened a President. You could have probably caught me making other racist remarks or anti-gay slurs. I will say that I was only a couple of years about getting over that crap on my own. She may need an attitude adjustment of some kind for sure. They might be able to get through to her.

(7,290 posts)But is it a crime to wish death on the President? Or is it specifically because she said "assassinate"?

(7,290 posts)I'm just wondering what her crime is. It seems to me that the Secret Service must be run ragged, having to track down and give a stern talk every time someone says they wish harm on the President.

(7,290 posts)I'm just saying I don't think this is a threat. To me, there's a big difference between hoping someone is killed and making a threat to kill someone.

(7,290 posts)Wishing the President dead and/or saying that you don't care if he dies is not a threat, IMO. Disgusting and lowlife, yes. A threat, no.
Of course, I also don't think burning the President in effigy, hanging empty chairs from trees and putting a picture of the President on a billboard alongside gunslinging SEALs are threats either.
Nor do I think she should be forced to go to any kind of diversity training. Even racist free speech is allowed.

(2,749 posts)I'm the first to admit that, and I don't like even reading it and I really didn't like typing that word myself, but this is what the girl wrote and as we are all adults here I think we can handle it, in this context. Let's leave it. It's impact should rile us all up and make that girl sorry she ever put her racist, almost criminal thoughts out there for public consumption. She should be bombarded with all kinds of blowback for this. And I don't mean violence AT ALL. I don't want anything to happen to her, unlike her own opinion that the president could be assassinated and she would throw a party. She needs help and I hope she gets it. In the meantime, I hope she has shit mountain fall down on her, in the figurative sense.

(13,227 posts)It's not against the law to be an ignorant racist dumbass. Pathetic, yes, but not illegal. And I don't believe in forced training to coerce compliance. Sounds kinda fascist to me.
As for the threat, she'll get a talking-to and a scare, but I doubt she'll see jail. Her biggest punishment in this case was to make a complete ass of herself.

I guess there's still hope that this negative attention will have an affect on her and she could come around and see that the way she thinks is all kinds of fucked up. On the other hand some Aryan group could come along and embrace her and solidify her thinking and she will be lost forever. It will be too bad if that happens but she is the one who loses out because her heart will always be filled with hate and I can't think of a worse way to live.

(66 posts)I see and hear it all the time. Earlier today I stepped up and defended my wife after she was repeatedly personally attacked on facebook by some local right wingers. I stood my ground and they became more angry...hurling insult after insult. Finally the breakthrough occurred and the truth came out. They started throwing out all kinds of racial slurs and derogatory homophobic comments. They repeatedly referred to Obama with the N word. At one point they told my wife that her sister(who is half black) better not come to their county because of what happens to black people there. Seriously. I reported it all to Facebook of course....but I don't know what will come of it. I think this lies at the heart of many of the tea partyers. It's just a matter of how long they can hold out on using the actual words that will clearly expose them.
