(15,536 posts)Every year I get choked up. Seeing the capitol all lit up and knowing what THEY did to it just enrages me to no end. I hope every last one of them gets what's coming to them. I stood on those steps one year for the July 4th concert when the first Bush was in office. I remember feeling touched by all of it.
On another note, are fireworks appropriate on Memorial Day weekend because my redneck area is already shooting them off? I always thought of it as a rather somber holiday, but then I was born right after WWII and grew up learning about all the sacrifices that were made to eliminate fascism.
They actually have a fireworks show the Sunday night before Memorial Day every year. Typically I'd agree with you that it seems weird, but they've been doing it for some time so it works for them.

Some veterans are triggered by the sound of fireworks. Having said that, I guess the dead ones don't have to hear it so it's OK.
The city has been doing it for some time and if a majority of veterans didn't approve, they probably would have shut it down years ago.
