I read about a month ago that the SC is behind schedule, with many more decisions to go. Does anyone know if they caught up, and how many opinions are left to release?
Also, do you think any big ones will come out this week? Or will we still have to wait two or three weeks?

(31,923 posts)They have issued 30 decisions. So they are a little behind. They have four days left listed on their calendar to release decisions: June 5, 12, 20, 26.

Where is the case now?
After the North Carolina Supreme Court made clear last year that such gerrymandering was illegal under North Carolina law, the Court in February 2023 decided to rehear the same case at the behest of Republican state legislators.
Nothing has changed in the case for the state supreme court to grant this unprecedented rehearingexcept that the court flipped from majority Democrat to majority Republican. Common Causes view is that the ruling should stand, regardless of the political leaning of the court, because the judiciary should never make decisions based on politicsonly the rule of law.
After the state supreme court granted a rehearing, the U.S. Supreme Court asked for all parties in Moore v. Harper to tell the Court why it should rule on the case now that the North Carolina court is rehearing it.
In our response, we made clear that the Supreme Court must reject this dangerous and fringe theory, no matter what happens in the state court. None of the facts of the case have changed since the Court heard oral arguments in Decemberand ISLT continues to pose a grave threat to American democracy.

I have not heard anything about when NCSC will rule and if SCOTUS will also rule, or wait for NCSC first.
This case will determine really nothing less than if our votes will count anymore. 2024 could be ugly.

(1,654 posts)And after last year's elections gave the GOP a majority, they ruled in favor of the GOP.
