The House Goes Home Early

“House Republican leaders canceled votes Wednesday and Thursday, sending lawmakers home after having wasted a week on Republican infighting that’s called into question the viability of the GOP leadership,” Punchbowl News reports.

“Conservative hardliners have been warring with Speaker Kevin McCarthy after the chamber passed the Fiscal Responsibility Act last week, which raised the debt limit until 2025. The GOP’s right flank saw the agreement as a betrayal of the secret deal they forged with McCarthy back in January that allowed him to become speaker. McCarthy denied this claim, but conservatives refused to let the House move forward on anything until they got more concessions from the speaker.”

had a huge hand in it as well. I will never forget hearing on Countdown with Keith Olbermann, KO discussing the unfortunate name the Teabaggers had chosen and how Dick Armey was a powerhouse behind the movement, and made this statement, "Because there's nothing a group of teabaggers need more than a Dick Armey" That may not be word for word but it's damn close. I fell out laughing.

Link to the story and comments here.

A couple of tidbits:

Just past 6 p.m. Wednesday, after GOP leaders gave up on resolving the impasse this week and canceled the remaining votes for the week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) addressed reporters and explained that part of the ongoing frustration is the hard-line faction’s inability to articulate their demands.

“This is the difficult thing,” he said. “Some of these members, they don’t know what to ask for.”

If you're flashing on a toddler having a meltdown and who can't articulate what he needs to feel better, I think you're spot on.

“This is, in my opinion, political incontinence on our part. We are wetting ourselves and can’t do anything about. This is insane,” Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.) said. “This is not the way a governing majority is expected to behave. And frankly, I think there’ll be a political cost to it.”

Remember the toddler thing? Throw in "not potty trained."

The Constitution says in Article II Section 3
concerning the president:

Section. 3.

He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.

Just curious.
