Artist's famous painted house destroyed by flooding in Ukraine

This is just sad to see.

Biography of Polina Rayko here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polina_Rayko

What's notable is that Rayko didn't start her art until later in her life. In the mid 1990s, she was struck by a series of tragedies. Her daughter died in a car accident, followed by her husband the next year. Then her son, who was deeply troubled and struggled with alcoholism and other issues, was committed; he would die several years later.

Rayko began painting her house as a means to work through her grief and family tragedies. Her work immediately recognized by the community, and the house was preserved as a museum following her death in 2004.

Now the work of art she made out of coping and grief has itself been destroyed by a senseless act in a senseless war.

As the Ukrainians say, "Вічная Пам'ять" ("Eternal memory." )
