Being caught in a sting operation is good stuff, but being monitored while exchanging love notes with someone like bone-saw mbs or tubby kim or loser pute, would be great stuff.

(18,628 posts)Of course it wouldn't be but they'd be able to convince a lot of the country that it was.
If Trump sold info to a foreign country it would be a lot harder to explain as a political move.

(16,379 posts)But I was born in 1950, and I'm pretty sure it was underway by then. I started school in 1956, and I remember reading about the Cold War in My Weekly Reader. Those were scary times. I remember Khrushchev saying "We will bury you!" and people thinking he meant it literally. I remember the space race and the U.S. going into to a panic when the Soviets got their satellite, Sputnik, into orbit.
The Cuban Missile Crisis really brought things to a head. I was in junior high at the time, and I remember sitting in school, expecting WWIII to break out any minute...and the sweet relief when it was all over and we realized we weren't actually all going to die after all. (Yet. )

(51,550 posts)And it's a nothingburger.
It's a FD-1023 from 2020 about allegations against Biden. FD-1023 forms are used to collect unverified reports from the FBI's confidential human sources, but do not necessarily constitute proof of wrongdoing. Comer and Ranking Member Jamie Raskin received a briefing on the document on Monday. Raskin said in a statement that the FBI told him Trump Justice Department officials evaluated the allegations in early 2020, but shut the assessment down later that year without further action. "As Republicans investigation into President Biden has uncovered no evidence of wrongdoing, they continue to attempt to discredit and dismantle the FBI to help prop up Donald Trump's poll numbers," Raskin said. https://www.axios.com/2023/06/08/james-comer-christopher-wray-fbi-contempt

Is the gang of 8 in the SCIF today. They were reviewing the FD-1023 document.
Raskin and Comer were 'briefed' on the document on Monday. They, with the senate leaders and the ranking committee members of both parties reviewed it today.
I made no comment on the merit of the document. Only what they were doing in the SCIF. It had nothing to do with UFOs or indictments or China.
Are you suggesting they were doing something else?

(32,080 posts)It could be that one or more of Trump's co-conspirators is a member of Congress, and/or the espionage charge is intelligence-related. They would be privy to that information.

(2,787 posts)I'm sorry... I'm usually not a conspiracy worrywort. But enough between the lines stuff has been happening, and with tomorrow being Friday news dump day, I'm taking out a bit of spending cash to have on hand, just in case. Better safe than sorry. My anxiety level has been ramping up over the last couple of weeks, and it hasn't been over Ukraine, tho I detest what Russia has been doing over there, especially the blowing up of the dam. I've been in tears over that... especially the loss at the zoo, and seeing everyone trying to rescue all the pets and wildlife, not to mention the stranded people.
But my gut tells me this is much closer to home than that. This is lone-wolf magats gone wild stuff I'm feeling. And although I think I'm relatively okay in this small town, I do worry about the interconnectedness of all of us with electronics. Remember, they just arrested what... 5 people... in the PNW... trying to get into a power station up there. Were others trying at the same time? How many others didn't they catch around the country? These are the type of worrywort things I'm feeling in my gut.
We've got "Republicans in disarray" in both Houses right now, but especially in the House of Rep. Whatever is going on, the "Freedom Caucus" is in it up to their elbows, and I'd bet dollars to donuts trying to do their best sleight of hand to distract.
I keep remembering the last time these guys were called into a SCIF and Diane coming out of that meeting, white as a ghost, because of what they were told about *rump. I await seeing them come out of this meeting before making up my mind. If they look as sick as they did at that last meeting... (sigh)
And yippers... I'm ready to be proved wrong, once again. And I'll eat my words. Ain't no big deal. I've been wrong before. And like someone else keeps saying around here... 28 months... but at some point, the shoe has to drop. And I have to believe this country will do the right thing or what WAS my military service all about?? I have to believe there's still some truth in democracy and law in this country. It may not be justice, because I honestly don't believe *rump will ever see the inside of a jail cell. He'll be ankle monitored and home confined, in my estimation.
Like I said, I'm usually not a conspiracy worrywort... and these are just my gut feelings. Same as yours. Ukraine IS my 2nd guess. There's a lot going on in the world right now. I don't feel it's about China and Cuba, though. I don't think China would risk a 2nd Bay of Pigs. They're not that stupid... not with their world desires. They really are a lot smarter than Russia. If there were to do something like this, I believe they'd wait for a sympatico Republican president... not one from the Democratic party that already had a history of standing up to the situation.
Anyway, JMO... YMMV... invariably!

(18,628 posts)And present a short summary of the evidence to show how strong their case is.
Hopefully the evidence would be so strong that it could be dangerous for Republicans to oppose it to protect Trump.
... or Fitzmas part 2 and they will not indict Trump because he used to be president.
