Petraeus, Rove, and Paula Broadwell: I Smell A Rat

Petraeus, Rove, and Paula Broadwell: I Smell A Rat

...................

And then there's this:

As her answer continued, Broadwell seemed to speak on behalf of Petraeus: “The challenging thing for General Petraeus is that in his new position he is not allowed to communicate with the press. So he’s known all of this, they had correspondence with the CIA station chief in Libya. Within 24 hours they kind of knew what was happening.”

Broadwell, herself a former military intelligence officer, began her discussion of the attack by referencing an exclusive Fox News report that had run that day. But while dramatic details of that story were later fiercely disputed by government officials, she relayed only parts of that story—like the attempt to send backup from a special-operations force—that were finally confirmed.

The Fox News story referenced there is the story that spawned the "Obama lied; people died" meme they tried to smear President Obama with during the election. Their report claimed that despite requests by the CIA for backup, they were denied. That sent Fox News talkers into a tizzy about how terrible this administration was and how the blood of our diplomats was on their head.

Who else pimped that story all over Fox News, do you think? None other than Karl Rove.

ROVE: Yeah, you don't want to send people into harm's way without knowing what's on the ground. But you can at least begin to move assets to the fight -- to the conflict. You could have a C-130 gunship orbiting off of -- off of Benghazi, waiting for clarity. You can put a QRF, a quick rapid force into position. You could have them airborne. You can have them out there. The president says he ordered support to be given and, yet, support wasn't given.

Except as we know, support was given.

..........................

We have these unrelated things. Let's put them in a timeline.

June 11, 2012 - Broadwell pictured with Rove, who tweets about it in June.
June-August, 2012 - FBI receives complaint about "harassing emails" sent by Broadwell to Jill Kelley
October 26, 2012 - Fox News "Exclusive" claiming CIA requested and was refused reinforcements.
October 26, 2012 - Broadwell pimps the Fox News version of events at a University of Denver symposium
October 28, 2012 - Rove hammers and expands on it in an interview on Fox News
Approximately October 28-31, 2012 - FBI confronts Petraeus and interviews him about emails, determines no breaches of national security have taken place.
October 31, 2012 - Cantor Chief of Staff contacted by Rep. Dave Reichert about FBI 'whistleblower'. Cantor says he contacted the FBI immediately.
November 6, 2012 - Barack Obama wins re-election
November 6, 2012 - James Clapper (Director of National Intelligence) informed of FBI investigation
November 8, 2012 - Petraeus submits resignation
November 9, 2012 - Resignation accepted

I'm smelling a Rove rat. Are you? Why the silence from Cantor? Clearly Reichert tipped Cantor off in the hopes of using this information in some way. The Petraeus/Rove relationship is real and long-standing. Is it possible that Paula was passing Rove information to use against President Obama in his re-election bid?

His silence before the election clearly wasn't intended to help Obama. Perhaps when he notified the FBI he thought the affair was the extent of it & that it could be used as an October surprise, but when he later learned that the situation was more than meets the eye, he kept quiet about it in order to protect his own disgusting party.

the affair, more so than Petraeus. I cannot get over the fact that she knew she was being investigated for having an affair with the CIA director, sending harrassing emails, and possessing classified material illegally--and yet she wasn't laying low, hoping the story would not go public and ruin her life and career. No, she was very public, in fact giving speeches about CIA involvement in Benghazi. WHO TOLD HER SHE WOULDN'T GET INTO ANY TROUBLE FOR HER AFFAIR AND RELATED ACTIVITIES? She had so much to lose, personally and professionally. She could be prosecuted criminally under the UCMJ.

and she knows what having a high security clearance entails, being an intelligence officer. She certainly knows that everything she did was wrong, from the classified stuff to the affair. I am willing to bet she felt in some way protected or immune from her own actions. I don't think Petraeus used her for anything other than sex and companionship. I think she used him for way more.

Don't frame this as a threat to the agency, frame Patraeus as the threat to the agency, and then you'd see all sorts of information leaked to the media, in my opinion.

The timeline is most interesting as it relates to the election; the story came out immediately after Obama's huge victory. I'm beginning to wonder if this could turn out to be another bin-laden-ish coup (against the Republicans) for Obama after it's been unfolded. Funny how the Republicans are beginning to talk about "working together".

went to Reichert(who's a former cop) told Cantor.

F.B.I. agent who had helped get a preliminary inquiry started, and learned of Mr. Petraeus’s affair and the initial concerns about security breaches, became frustrated. Apparently unaware that those concerns were largely resolved, the agent alerted the office of Representative Eric Cantor, Republican of Virginia, the House majority leader, about the inquiry in late October. Mr. Cantor passed on the agent’s concerns to Mr. Mueller.

Huh? Huh? Please - please - please?

Just kidding! Paula Broadwell's book on Petraeus sold like hotcakes on Amazon after the scandal broke; no doubt she will cut a deal - even if it is from (short term) prison - and grab the movie rights for herself.

Pretty Woman, with all her connections, will come out of this smelling like a rose. I really feel sorry for her kids: How many moms willingly leave their young children for a year to do a biographical book in Afghanistan? Especially those who have never written a book before?

Mon Nov 12, 2012, 06:43 PM
Nov 2012

1. Who brought the FBI into it, and why? According to Richard Engel, the CIA handles its own security issues. Also according to Engel, Petraeus was not well-liked by the careerists at CIA. He was not a company man, and furthermore had brought with him an inner circle of managers from his military career. Engel seemed to imply that Petraeus' CIA opponents might have brought in the G-men. But why?

2. Why would Petraeus, a man of legendary discipline, and one with great political skill, go all mushy and admit to an extramarital affair? He could have just said "I have a family emergency and must resign. It has been a pleasure to serve the country and I hope that the Agency is stronger for my efforts". That he admitted to an affair seems to me to be a bright shiny object dangled in front of the public to distract from potentially more explosive issues, for example, collaboration with Republican operatives using Broadwell as an intermediary.

Remember this is the Party that impeached a president for not disclosing lurid and graphic details of an extramarital affair.
At some point Rove will have to be neutralized. Who does it and why will make a great movie and book.
Keep in mind, suicide is in Rove's immediate family, his mother in 1981.
When the Bush cartel sees Karl as a threat he'll be dispatched.
