By NBC's Mark Murray
For all the talk about how Mitt Romney and the Republicans lost when it came to demographics, the turnout, and the tactics, the exit polls also show that they lost when it came to the issues.
For years, the GOP has branded itself as the party that supports low taxes (especially for the wealthy) and opposes abortion and gay marriage.
But according to the exit polls from last weeks presidential election, a combined 60% said that tax rates should increase either for everyone or for those making more than $250,000. Just 35% said the tax rates shouldnt increase for anyone.
Whats more, 59% said that abortion should be legal in all or most cases.
And by a 49%-to-46% margin, voters said that their states should legally recognize same-sex marriage.

(20,219 posts)Goddammit! Spread this far and wide, because when people know what the issues ARE, and that most of us AGREE on them, then repuke lies will lose their persuasive power.

(11,087 posts)It was Grover Norquist as much as Mitt Romney. It was the rape guys, not just bad tactics from Rove. Well, give Romney and Rove plenty of credit, I mean blame, too.
Anyway, If Republicans want to come back and make this a two party country again, they need to go shopping for some new ideas.

(2,672 posts)They're doubling down on their failed ideas, as a matter of fact, the tea baggers claim romney wasn't conservative enough.
Crank up the crazy!

(3,557 posts)I can't think of the guys name, but I remember reading in 2008 some analyst said that it would be 40 years before the republicans would be able to get one of their candidates elected. So far, that is right.
Well, we have 8 years down. 32 more to go!

(4,802 posts)MT passed by 75% a refenderum stating its opposition to Corporate double talk that Money = Free Speech.. ( Initiative 166) and Florida's issues were refenderum denying State legislative Republicans a Supreme Court Putsch , failed to ratify public monies going to religious schools, continue to allow state monies be used for abortions, refused more extreme tax cuts, and refused to pass an amendment outlawing ObamaCare. And we thought Florida had gone all tea bag and ruled by crazies.

(45,319 posts)voters but the crushed opposition. . We had to almost highjack Obama to get him to stop opposing marriage equality, one of the issues that won for him, and people here attacked us the whole time for 'wanting a pony'. The moderates said 'he can't support it now, it would destroy him at the polls- after the election, Pragmatism!!!!'
They were so wrong.
