I am very excited about the Colbert (aka Cain) Candidacy

Watching Stephen Colbert encouraging Democrats and independents (and explicitly college kids) to vote for Herman Cain in the OPEN South Carolina republican primary I got a gen-u-ine thrill up my leg.

I really want Cain-bert to beat Perry. I am surprised to find how much I want that. I doubt it will happen, but God it would be sweet.

Oddly enough, Cain-bert may well be the most liberal major party black presidential contender since Jesse Jackson. (Colbert is almost certainly to the left of Obama and Mosely-Braun. He seems to me to be one of those catholic democratic-socialists we used to have in the 1970s.)

“If this Saturday, Herman Cain were to get a significant number of votes, that would be a sign that voters are hungry, hungry for a Stephen Colbert campaign.”

In Iowa it was PArry (for Perry), which made sense, but why would he use Cain's name exactly as it is spelled, when Cain isn't even on the SC ballot?

Normally, the Colbert/Stewart humor has me in stitches, but they lost me on this one?

even though he is out of the race, SC does not allow write ins on their Repub primary, so no way to vote Colbert.

so a vote for Cain is like a vote for Colbert in South Carolina Republican primary. The SC Repub primary is an open event so independents and democrats are allowed to vote as well.

could be interesting.

So he is legally able to co-opt the Cain campaign like that?

Gotta love Citizens United. Good lord.

But as to the spirit of the law they are running the super pac like a true right wing attack machine

The votes would legally be for Cain so it's more of a protest vote and a perhaps a chance to gain exposure. So legally they aren't co-opting Cain's campaign but yes in spirit they are co-opting it.

Perhaps someone more versed in the law will correct me but that's perception of the situation.
