Non-GOP candidates furious over being excluded from Montana weekly newspapers' coverage

When Mark Sheets opened up the Oct. 31 edition of the Clark Fork Valley Press – the last one to come out before the election – he was surprised to find published candidate questionnaires in the weekly newspaper.

Surprised, he says, because he was a candidate for Senate District 7, and says he never received a questionnaire from the newspaper.

Sheets, a Democrat, noticed there were no answers published from the Libertarian candidate in SD 7, John Marshall, either – only ones from Republican Jennifer Fielder.

On closer examination, Sheets says the same held true in the Mineral Independent – like the Valley Press, owned by Hagadone Newspapers – and the House District 13 and 14 races. Again, only Republican candidates had their answers published.
