Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) offered his take on the fiscal cliff in a floor speech Tuesday, calling on the House to take up the Senate-passed bill to avert tax hikes on middle incomes.
An excerpt from Reid's speech:
"In fact, we could avert the fiscal cliff for 98 percent of American families and 97 percent of small businesses today. The House must only consider the Senate-passed bill freezing tax rates for those making less than $250,000 a year.
"This Congress is but one vote away from avoiding the fiscal cliff for middle class families and small businesses.

(111,110 posts)is the calendar. More specifically, January 1st, 2013. The President cannot pass spending bills, for the military or anyone else. The onus is upon the Republicans as of that date on the calendar.

...asking the President to pass a bill. He's saying that the House simply needs to pass the Senate bill.
Boehner's move.
Senator Murray also said Democrats would allow it to expire if Republicans fail to act.

(31,849 posts)Reid should call daily press conferences repeating what he has said here: "By the House signing onto the Senate Bill, the 'fiscal cliff' will be solved for 97% of Americans and 98% of small businesses."
And this should be followed, immediately, by a tweet, e-mail or Executive comment repeating what he has already said, "My pen is ready!"
