Twitter Bans On Reddit...

Since Musk took control of Twitter, he mostly eliminated the Trust and Safety group and stopped paying the vendor that scans for CSAM. As a result, CSAM (child sexual abuse material) has apparently been circulating on Twitter recently (from what I've read elsewhere, the same notorious video that the feds found on Josh Duggar's hard drive).

Musk also recently reinstated the account of someone who posted CSAM content.

As a result, we'll be removing any content here that leads to Twitter, or, as he now calls it, X. Whether it's an embed link or a direct link to a tweet. Don't care what outlet is doing it. If you're a reporter or editor, stop embedding links to Twitter in any of your content.

DO NOT: Under any circumstances post any link that leads directly to CSAM. We will ban you immediately and report you to the admins. If it looks like you broke the law—which borders on strict liability for this stuff—we will do everything in our power to report you to the feds and send you to jail.

This is from r/law on Reddit.

However, I find it endlessly annoying when posts with nothing but Twitter content are posted here.
I cannot view that stuff due to my firewall, so I have no idea what the post is about.

If DU banned Twitter content, I would applaud that move, but like I said, I refrain from voting that way as I am not a direct user.

I don't use reddit and am not registered dating back to the time when they had multiple really disgusting subreddits espousing INCEL or other women-hate-directed groups, which I believe (hope?) have been mostly cleaned up by now. But, is the r/law a subgroup? There was no indication on what I was able to see whether or not this was coming from one of the owners/lead administrators of reddit, so thus my confusion.

Since you may be curious, I am neither a registered user of Twitter or "X" or FB, or Instagram, or any of a myriad of other social media sites at this moment. In the past, Twitter posts embedded in DU did not bother me, but if they are not visible and the poster does not provide the text I can see why they would be extremely annoying. With the changes to "X" I am not sure the implications to DU.

The text that the OP references comes from a moderator of r/law, which is a subreddit group dedicated to legal discussions. He is laying out terms and conditions for those who participate in that particular group. So, Twitter is not banned from all subreddits. There may be some others that are going to opt to do something similar, but the quoted text from above is specific to that one group. I just checked my subreddits and none of them are doing the same thing at this time.

The moderator of r/law made a compelling case so I posted their thoughts here so that Democratic Underground might be aware of what other reputable forums were doing.

A twitter link on DU takes me to the tweet and only the tweet. No followups, no preceding tweets, one single tweet.

Not much of a traffic building strategy.

Are we voting that our members cannot post items (news photos, tweets) that have live links to Twitter?

Or are we voting that screenshots (no live links) should be banned, if they originated on Twitter?

There's a rather large difference. I myself have posted screenshots from Twitter several times.
However I don't believe I've ever posted a live-link from Twitter (at least not in the last year anyway.)

Please explain and I'll vote my preference.

and now here - and both times you/ve recced your own OP, and on this GD version, currently that's the only rec it has. Forgive me if I detect an agenda and concerted campaign.

I've rarely and only ever very selectively visited Reddit, and then only very briefly, though I know it's the source of many internet memes, some fine, some really unpleasant and downright sinister. The fact a subreddit has done this - which implies some of its members posted or linked the content referred to - is maybe of some interest.

Only the admins of DU can take such decisions, so you can post as many polls as you want, it won't stop many of us sifting though Twitter, like any other online source, and posting on DU what we consider worthwhile. If EarlG et al. decide to impose a ban, that's what'll happen. So far, they've shown no inclination to do so.

So you not only visited the wrong forum, but clicked on "Start a discussion", somehow managed to miss the large "STOP" sign that popped up with the notification in red:

Thousands of people use the DU Latest Breaking News Forum as their primary source for news. Please do not "dilute" the forum by starting threads that are not news.

Post the latest news from reputable mainstream news websites and blogs. Important news of national interest only. No analysis or opinion pieces. No duplicates. News stories must have been published within the last 12 hours. Use the published title of the story as the title of the discussion thread.

then ploughed on regardless, entered your own version of the "article" title as ""Twitter Ban" right under where it reads "Title: Use the EXACT TITLE of the article you are posting, without additional comment. If there is no title yet, be descriptive.", and posted a subreddit URL right under where it reads "Source: Eg. Washington Post, Associated Press, etc. (use reputable mainstream sources only)."

No, I don't want to buy any bridge you're selling.

to "mistakenly" put a non-LBN post on LBN? Look the word up in a dictionary.

As for grandiosity, I'm afraid if you can't cope with logic and people expressing themselves in complete sentences, that's not my problem.

And your passive-aggressive "good wishes" in response are also noted.
