It will infuriate the FOX News crowd, cause the right to erupt and oppose her nomination, and mobilize our base for the 2014 mid terms...
Forward...

(53,072 posts)according to news reports. Oddly, they are talking about John Kerry as Sec of Defense, which I can't see.

(24,096 posts)I don't get this logic.
Fuck them and the horses they ride in on.
The President will appoint who he thinks is qualified and not pass out questionaires on what the Repugs suggest.
SOS FOR RICE. makes it sound even sweeter to know it will piss off the right.... and others too!
quinnox
(20,600 posts)I would prefer someone else. Like Huntsman, for example.

(15,438 posts)From the New York Times (11/13/2012):
Ms. Rice spent eight years at the White House and the State Department under President Clinton. She was a member of the National Security Council staff, first as director for international organizations and peacekeeping, and then as a special assistant to the president and senior director for African affairs. A protégé of Madeleine K. Albright when Ms. Albright was secretary of state during the Clinton years, Ms. Rice catapulted over more veteran officials in 1997 when she was given the job as assistant secretary of state for African affairs. Ms. Rice has special expertise in the problems posed by weak and failed states, global poverty and transnational security threats.
She also has had experience with Al Qaeda Ms. Rice was the top diplomat for African issues during the 1998 terrorist bombings of embassies in Tanzania and Kenya.

Now, compare that to Huntsman.
I really don't get your gripe with her. I really don't.

(20,600 posts)Come on, lighten up a little.
he's just another lieing piece of shit Repug, that smells slightly better than the rest, is all. Below what seems to be a normal exterior is a tried and true mini-romney
Rice is far superior to that suit, imho.
We'll see soon enough.
quinnox
(20,600 posts)on Huntsman. He is a brilliant guy and already worked for Obama administration!!
They like Huntsman already, and it is a great choice for SOS.
Huntsman would do is try to set up The POTUS....i wouldn't trust a republican in that type of position...

BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)Stop defending the stupidity and partisanship of the Republicans, quinnox. The president has won big time and he has a right to his appointments, and Susan Rice is more than qualified.
Jeezus. With support from Democrats like you, who needs Republicans.

(20,600 posts)on Benghazi. We don't need distractions like a tainted SOS nominee, being investigated.

(99,714 posts)That reversed a historical trend of the party of the reelected incumbent losing seats in a mid term election.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)and see how that pans out before tossing President Obama's preferred choice on the heap.
Besides, another Rice; one who was horribly inept, blew it badly on 9/11, yet she still became SoS. So let's not be hypocritical here.
quinnox
(20,600 posts)for SOS anyway? I never heard that before.
Rice may have made some mistakes in what she said, and we can't hide from that.
Isn't tainted. Let's just stop that republican talking point right there. She was giving the info given to her by the CIA. If you want to fight her, start there.

(15,438 posts)in the face of rumored Republican objections. That's the LAST thing he should do. Susan Rice is overqualified for the position and he should get the appointments he wants. It's what the Republicans told the Democrats under Bush, 'member?

I know you're no President Obama fan, cthulu, but as a Democrat - however marginal - you should support this president and not try to tear him down every chance you get.

(2,902 posts)He seems to be being sidetracked by these relatively meaningless side issues. He needs some R votes in Congress to pass anything.

(32,611 posts)Fox News and the Republicans are trying to run a false narrative on Benghazi and tie Rice to it. Why have you joined in their false narrative? What is your agenda?

(2,902 posts)I don't think Rice is qualified for SOS. HRC is a tough act to follow.
How about knocking off the bullying attempts. Won't work with me. Let's discuss the issue.

(18,402 posts)If you don't stand up to these sexist, racist, and politically motivated creeps, then you are letting them win.
Let's allow them to block or vote down her nomination. Let's let the whole country see their pathetic arguments. Let's put the blame on them for holding up our foreign policy and national security.
I want this fight.
ON EDIT: PS: This president has no "capital" with Republicans in Congress. They will oppose everything he does or says and every person he nominates (unless it is one of theirs). Unless he nominates another Petraeus, they're not going to go along.
