(22,718 posts)If the media within their silo can't be trusted, who can?
I wonder if it isn't just the pure inability to understand big civic concepts and the governmental terminology that makes them so suspicious?
Maybe it's simply cognitive impairment? Maybe it's the stupid? TFG tells them their smart, so, they sign on?

(67,049 posts)... out to make money. Of course they manipulate the news and always have. Sometimes more than other times, but now with an election like none ever held before they have been ginning controversy more than ever before than any other election.
It's almost like the way media advertising has stretched the Christmas season to the end of August for shopping. The elections used to be a one year coverage. Now it's being hyped like a prize fight more than two years before the election. It serves to make Congress start their reelection immediately after being sworn in. Effectively they make Reps all lame ducks.

(793 posts)Mass media, more than any other force I can think of, has done the most to elevate Trump to cult status. Even after Biden was elected, their focus continued to be on Trump twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. With the exception of the foreign press, I recently decided not to read or click on any American-based "news" stories related to Trump. It's stunning what a challenge that is because Trump is the primary focus of so many media outlets around the clock with their rank fellatio of him 24/7/365. Those who lack any modicum of critical thinking are easily sucked into this wretched muck that legitimizes a lawless criminal; a pathological liar of a thug, a rapist and a thief who serves no one except himself.

(10,105 posts)is shaped by the corporate boardroom as well. Those moneymaking schemes for the shareholders turn into what many people consider their personal "brand", what they identify with, the intentions of which is largely unbeknownst to themselves.
That ruthless corporate marketting is pervasive. It is insidious. I'd guess most people, including myself, don't realize just how inescapable it is despite ones level of awareness and any steps taken to avoid becoming part of it.

(13,454 posts)A whole bunch of the folks who support Trump will just give whatever the most positive response for Trump is in any poll. It's Ok to say anything at all to pollsters. They're in cahoots with the enemy.
Second, remember that paranoids and resentful people (right, left, and center) want to lash out, so they talk themselves into believing they are justified. Muggers and criminals don't even bother with that.

(40,915 posts)Would believe Trump over Jesus for credibility...
... Donald has some Christian true believers.
About 2:55 on the timeline.
"Let me tell you," he continued. "If Jesus Christ gets down off the cross and told me Trump is with Russia, I would tell him, hold on a second, I need to check with the president if it is true. That is how confident I feel in the president."

Being related to someone doesn't inherently make them worthy of trust.

Ms. Toad
(37,336 posts)But my point is that there is nothing special about kin which make them inherently more trustworthy than a political leader, as anyone with a MAGA family member knows.

(7,140 posts)I have lost count of how many marriages for people I know personally, or a degree or two off, that either already failed or are hanging by a sliver. For some it isn't even necessarily the crazy beliefs. It is that the spouse prefers to spend time online than engaging with the people in their own home. You can't run a family like that.

These were an aberration that never should have been allowed. The lying throughout abused the first amendment egregiously. And totally sullied the office of president.
Our checks and balances are completely catawampus.

(8,895 posts)My belief is that if you ask a question about Trump to a voter who has confirmed that he is a Trump voter, you will get what that person considers a "correct" Trump supporter team answer, not necessarily a truthful answer.

(15,555 posts)the results, at lest for me, are about the same. since I have some Trumpers in my family I'd trust Biden over my family and surely over conservative media and religious figures.
