Romney: Obamas gifts to key demographics helped him win
Mitt Romney, on a call with top donors on Wednesday, referred to some of the policies enacted under the Obama administration as gifts that helped him win young, minority and low-income voters.
Heres The New York Timess account of the call:
In each case they were very generous in what they gave to those groups, Mr. Romney said.
With regards to the young people, for instance, a forgiveness of college loan interest, was a big gift, he said. Free contraceptives were very big with young college-aged women. And then, finally, Obamacare also made a difference for them, because as you know, anybody now 26 years of age and younger was now going to be part of their parents plan, and that was a big gift to young people. They turned out in large numbers, a larger share in this election even than in 2008.
According to that account and another in the Los Angeles Times, Romney also apologized to donors and said he was surprised by the loss.
Just a few hours earlier, Obama said in his news conference that he hoped to meet with Romney to discuss ideas for ways they could work together.

Lord I am so fed up with the entire Republican Party and just wish that they would finish self destructing so that they could just go away.

(8,224 posts)He actually thought he would get to set the "issues environment" to run against a sitting President. No one gets to do that, it is not how this game is played. One of the perks of having the office is that you get to enact policy which has the effect of changing the issues in the debate, and the President can pick which moves to make.
Bitching about this is more a sign that he did not understand the job he signed up for as challenger to a sitting President, or the rules of how this game is played. "But, but, that mean Obama used the power of the office to change the outcome" "He did not give me a fair shot".
Sorry Mitt, but it never is the job of the President to give a challenger a fair shot, and never has been. You should have known that when you tossed your hat in the ring, and made plans accordingly. This is the actual job of a political challenger to any incumbent. It is the sort of hard work you thnk is so good for everyone else...
