William Murray: Social Security Launched the 'War on the Traditional Family' and Increased the rate of Homosexuality
Submitted by Brian Tashman on Thursday, 11/15/2012 12:45 pm
By dramatically reducing poverty among seniors, Murray argues that Social Security and Medicare allowed young people to financially abandon their parents and have more money to spend on everything from booze to cars to Chinese-made clothes. He goes on to claim that Social Securitys devastating impact on morality increased rates of drug use and has meant that more children are born out of wedlock and that more young men destroy their lives in homosexuality.

The war on the traditional family began with President Franklin Roosevelts Social Security and other programs. One of the main reasons for marriages staying together was maintaining homes and wealth for old age. With the promise of government retirement money, many marriages could be walked away from for some very frivolous reasons. The divorce rates climbed as Social Security and other government benefits increased.

(111,261 posts)Before Social Security, old folks could live decently only while the husband was alive. Once he died, his pension died with him and his widow was left destitute.
Social Security allowed her to live on her own instead of having to persuade children and inlaws to take her in, where she would have one poky room and be called upon 24/7 for unpaid domestic services. Since there was always considerable friction in such households, it's no wonder that as soon as we got Social Security, that multigenerational family horseshit flew right out the window. Such families looked real cozy if you didn't get stuck being part of one.
His nostalgia for the huge family of several generations living together in perfect harmony is a lot of hooey. It DID NOT WORK for most people and that's why we abandoned the model as soon as we could.
I'm sure this idiot is longing for a past that never existed, where everyone knew his place and accepted it. Unfortunately, most people chafed at that system and the proof of that is how quickly it was dumped.
If these social troglodytes want to recreate this system, why don't they start with their own families?
That they refuse to do it themselves provides me with all the answer I need about what they're all about.

Reminds me on the Simpsons bit where Bart runs into the (fictional) creator of Spriograph who says:
"Have you noticed the correlation between the decline of Spriograph and the rise of gang activity? Think about it!"
