Dear Meghan, there comes a time in every child's life where they need to intervene ~

when their parent gets to a stage where they no longer are making wise choices for themselves.

For me, it was too late... my stubborn dad insisted on being independent. When I finally convinced him to move out of his home and into an apartment for seniors where he could still live independently, but they did all the cooking and cleaning - he needed to be placed in a nursing home. How I wish I could go back in time and convinced him sooner.

For you, Meghan, that time is now.
Your father used to be larger than life. A Maverick that would stand up for what was right, inspite of his political party.
A War Hero.
Then he chose Sarah Palin for his running mate, the most incompetent VP pick in history, putting our country in danger if she ever had to step up to the Presidency while not even understanding 6th grade Government. Thankfully they lost the election.
Then he began acting like a toddler. Screaming into the cameras about every little thing; every time he didn't get his way. He hasn't stopped, in fact he has gotten worse.
Aren't you concerned that maybe he is not well? Maybe senility is setting in?

Your father used to be held in high esteem. Now he is nothing but a joke... a sad joke.

From one daughter to another ~ the time is now. Don't wait until it's too late.

when my mother has two horrific strokes and couldn't take care of herself. I tweeted to her because of her comments praising her "dad" for and I quote, "KEEPING IT REAL" and told her E-X-A-C-T-L-Y what I thought of her comment. Haven't heard anything since.

One of my older relatives had them. The patient ususally doesn't realize that anything happens, but their personalities change.

Also, there is the possibility of dementia. Some forms will result in personality changes as the disease progresses.

I don't agree with him on many policy matters, an exception being his push for campaign finance reform. But he was a decent guy. He told crazed pubbies that Obama was a decent family man who was born in Hawaii.

Now, he seems to have gone off the deep end. It's sad to see. I hope that Meghan and her Mom are reviewing their options and contacting professionals who deal with this type of problem.

My dad had those. He would go nutso over a nothing event (at me) when he had always been pretty quiet. After this one episode about where I put the bicycle... I was then age 40 and visiting from far away. A few hours later he had a mini stroke that he noticed. The dr said he had had many of them.

They should check him for stuff like that. (although he is also a dick who is very good at acting like a dick!)

He is being very irrational. I saw that with my own father, especially when he was under stress as he was going downhill.

John went thru some hard times as a prisoner of war, it may have effected him and is now showing up as he ages.

If it were up to the BushCo* 1 WH, he'd have been sequestered in Cheney's bunker for the entire four years. The rest of U.S. wouldn't have minded.
