Trump and Meadows joked about Covid on plane after Biden debate, book says

Martin Pengelly in Washington
The Guardian, September 20, 2023

Donald Trump and his chief of staff Mark Meadows joked about the then US president having Covid on Air Force One after the first debate with Joe Biden in 2020 – an event at which Trump was not tested but three days before which, Meadows later confessed, Trump had indeed tested positive.

On the flight, on 29 September 2020, Trump speculated about his health, saying he thought his voice had sounded “a little bit off” at a rally in Duluth, Minnesota. But he also said he did not want the media to “accuse me of something ridiculous, like having Covid”.

Meadows “laughed and promised him that we would handle it if it happened”.

“We” referred to Meadows and Cassidy Hutchinson, the chief of staff’s closest aide who has now written a memoir, Enough. The book, which describes Hutchinson’s journey from Trump loyalist to key witness in the January 6 inquiry, will be published in the US next Tuesday. The Guardian obtained a copy.

In December 2021, the Guardian obtained a copy of Meadows’s own memoir, The Chief’s Chief. In that book, Meadows revealed that Trump tested positive for Covid three days before debating Biden but disregarded the test after another came back negative and then, despite showing worsening symptoms, carried out public events including the debate and a reception for bereaved military families.

President Donald Trump mocked Democratic nominee Joe Biden for wearing a face mask at Tuesday night's presidential debate — two days before the president tested positive for COVID-19.

At the debate, Trump said he only wears a face mask if he feels he needs to.

"I don't wear face masks like him," Trump said of Biden. "Every time you see him he's got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away ... and he shows up with the biggest mask I've ever seen."

Wearing a face mask or covering is one of the most effective ways of reducing the spread of the novel coronavirus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended face coverings since April.

I guess the main problem was relying on an "honor system" when dealing with Trump.

"...There was an honor system when it came to the people that came into the hall from the two campaigns," Chris Wallace, the Fox News host who moderated the debate, said Friday on air.

All attendees were required to obtain a negative COVID-19 PCR test on the hospital campus within 72 hours of the debate to gain admission. Masks were required, and the crowd was limited to 300 people.

Several members of the president's family, along with White House and Trump campaign staff, were seen without masks in Cleveland ahead of the debate, and some took off their masks while seated watching the debate, violating protocol."...(more)

Flash back to when the heinous anus kicked Mick Mulvaney out of the room for coughing during a TV interview with George Stephanopoulos?

“Let’s do that over, he’s coughing in the middle of my answer,” said Trump, who then paused to glare in the direction of the offender, who Stephanopoulos identified as “your chief of staff.”

Dumpler has a problem with germs...

Trump is such a germaphobe that aides aren't allowed to cough in his presence and visitors must wash their hands before entering the Oval Office, report says

Tom Porter
Business Insider, Jul 8, 2019, 6:14 AM

Aides to President Trump have told Politico that he hates it when staff cough or sneeze in his presence because of his longstanding germaphobia.

Trump also reportedly asks visitors to wash their hands in a bathroom off the Oval Office, and uses hand sanitizer after shaking hands at campaign events.

In an interview, Trump described shaking hands as "barbaric" because it spreads germs.

In June, Trump ordered acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney from his office after he coughed during a TV interview.

So, as long as germs don’t get him, all is fine and dandy. No wonder he couldn’t give two cents when warned about COVID-19 in January, 2020! He knows how to protect himself.

Hypocritic oats from a degenerate germaphobe.

Trump Likely Killed Healthcare Workers By Siphoning Off Billions In PPE Funds

Jason Easley
Politicus, March 2, 2021

The Trump administration secretly moved ten billion federal dollars that were supposed to go to hospitals for PPE into vaccine development and likely killed hospital workers.

STAT reported:

The Trump administration quietly took around $10 billion from a fund meant to help hospitals and health care providers affected by Covid-19 and used the money to bankroll Operation Warp Speed contracts, four former Trump administration officials told STAT.

“ Hospitals in need of the funding would be outraged to know that some of the money was siphoned off, even for important uses, because Congress was clear that this money was for providers and clinicians,” said Chip Kahn, CEO of the Federation of American Hospitals.

The Trump administration could have easily gotten the money from Congress for vaccine development, but they intentionally chose to take PPE away from hospitals because they were trying to rush vaccine development so that Trump could win reelection while minimizing the pandemic itself.

The writer also asks how many healthcare workers have died in the COVID-19 pandemic?

2,900 per KHN and The Guardian

They didn't have sufficient access to PPE. Her unit took to wearing yellow rain slickers backwards with only a single mask and face shield for an entire 18 hour shift.

He stole their protective gear and I will never forgive him for that.
