To the extent that hey have had power in the past--and that is a very great extent--it was by means of an unholy coalition of felonious financiers, flat-earthers and fraudsters. Any attempt to "remodel" will inevitably lead to a breaking apart of the elements. Consider, for example, the problem of trying to simultaneously appeal to underprivileged minorities and rabidly racist Tea Partiers. Or to modern women and the anti-choice crowd. Or to academics and scientists on the one hand, and Creationists and GW-denying energy corporations on the other.

There's no way.
