Since shortly before the election, I've taken to tuning into my local Hate-radio network for my commute home. It's always good for a hardy laugh and a brief diversion from the reality I am forced to endure on my job ... "Yes, Mr. Employee. You really do have to do what your supervisor directs you to do, provided the direction is not unlawful, immoral or unethical. No, Ms. Supervisor you can't fire that long-term employee just because you are finally fed up the the conduct that you have ignored/tolerated for the past 18 years" (but I digress).
As fate would have it, my drive time is graced with one, glenn beck. Before the election, his narrative was all about how the good, and silent, patriots of this great nation would rise up against the evil that is liberalism, in general, and President Obama, in particular (as if President Obama is the exemplar of all things liberal ... He is not).
But I've noticed a post-election shift in the beck ... Yes, he still is riling against liberalism and continues to have an unhealthy thing for President Obama; but I've noticed that his show has become one long commercial for one beck venture after another, designed only to separate his following from their money (but for their own good ... he promises). First, he was hawking "investment" in his tv/radio franchise ... he's offering "a few select 'investors' the opportunity to support his 'efforts to educate the masses'." AND while he is willing to accept money from his "investors", he is quick to say, that he will retain 100% ownership in his franchise, he will retain 100% control over the contain and all executive and strategic decision-making. Oh, yeah ... he promises to use "all "invested funds" to expand his mission; he "will not use any to pad his bottom-line." (I wonder if any of his followers would consider paying himself millions would fall into the "expanding the franchise" catagory, or "padding the bottomline" catagory?)
And for the past few days, his show has been hawking a book ... I didn't catch the title; but it's something about Agenda 21. Oh, did I mention, beck plagarized ... er ... was "approached by Simon and Schuster to 'distill a horrifying story written by {some woman} who was inspired by {a beck} lecture on Agenda 21'"? The magnanimous beck agreed to "distill" this woman's fictional novel into a salable product ... that he plays to expand into a "horrifying; but cautionary" film ... from the revenue generated by the book.
I normally, pity folks that get taken in by hucksters; but in the case of beck followers, I say good on them ... and would only caution them, "When a thief tells you he is a thief ... believe him!"
