See below -- I have a petition in response to all of those right-wing nut jobs who have apparently been petitioning the White House in just this same manner to allow their states to secede from the union as a result of the 2012 election. Attached is a form sent to me by the White House which allows you to sign MY petition which would conditionally allow this. Please sign up!! 150 signatures are necessary for the petition to become publicly viewable on the White House site! Send to your like-minded friends!
You have to read the forwarded message to the end to see what I have proposed.
The gist is, okay, secede, so long as it is by majority vote under the Voting Rights Act of 1965 (which assures no racial discrimination) and if they pay back the HUGE excess of federal money transferred to those states by the US Government since 1864.

To Allow Certain States Wishing to Withdraw from the Union to do
so immediately.
We hereby demand that the administration introduce and Congress adopt laws
and constitutional amendments necessary to allow any State that was in
rebellion against the United States as of January 1, 1864 to secede from the
United States upon the following conditions:
(1) Such state shall, by a majority vote of its citizens held in accordance
with the provisions of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, elect to secede from
the United States; and
(2) Such state shall, as a provision of such vote, obligate itself to refund
to the Treasury of the United States, all payments of any kind made to said
State by the United States which are in excess of the federal taxes collected
from such State for the period from 1864 until the date of such vote.

I live in Texas and my home, my job, my family is here. Will there be a mechanism in place to relocate those of us who get 'trapped' if secession becomes a reality???
I'm serious about this. Consideration needs to be given to people like me.

(1,448 posts)would like to see a petition to require: 1) mooching States to repay the excess Fed money pumped into them since 1864, and 2) a "no mooching" Constitutional Amendment (no net positive money transfers from Fed to any State). These RW crybabies have no shame. Complaining about the Fed teats that they suck -- what a total lack of class.
