I think this would be a handy thing to have as a reference. Maybe some other site already has it, but it seems like we should be able to create such a guide using the power of our group. My idea is that DUers from various states can post about their state until we have all 50 states.
So a reply would look like this:
KANSAS - Republican Governor (up in 2014)
Kansas House 92 Republican, 33 Democrat
Kansas Senate 32 Republican 8 Democrat (up again in 2016)
then other states will check in, hopefully
Democratic Governor
House- Super Majority
Senate- Super Majority

Sort of making this thread redundant.
Also turns out my own SOS was inaccurate and in spite of the seeming bloodbath, Kansas Democrats actually made gains in this last election. Picked up a Senate Seat and two house seats.
It's now 9 to 31 in the Senate and 35 to 90 in the House

(37,573 posts)okay their legislature is kinda confusing and official results still are not in
It was 25 to 69 in the House with only 50 seats being up this term, but I got that 38 Republicans won to 14 Democrats. I miscounted apparently and I am not sure how that changes the balance anyway.
Senate 13 to 33 with one vacancy

(146,317 posts)I don't have the exact numbers. In the 2010 election, Republicans gained control of both houses by a narrow margin, and then proceeded to force a shutdown of state government when they could not produce a budget. In addition the Republicans introduces constitutional amendments to ban same-sex marriage and to force Voter ID. Both amendments failed to win in the 2012 election, and the voters returned control of both houses to the Democrats.
We also have a Democratic Governor. Things are going to change very quickly in 2013.

the DFL is sure doing better than Wisconsin, but they have Pawlenty to make up for.

(146,317 posts)Sadly, Pawlenty was already there when I moved to Minnesota, along with the vile Norm Coleman.

(37,573 posts)Assembly - 56-24
Senate - 26 - 12 (not sure what happened to the other 2)
That is really a very small assembly given the size of California. The districts must be ginormous. And spending an average of $1,000,000 per race.
Yes, as I found in post #2, Ballotpedia is very cool.

Ballotpedia.. very useful tool to identify state races we should start on for 2014
Efforts like souls-to-the-polls would be a LOT easier if the legislatures were more blue than red. Many of the Draconian laws passed recently could be undone..
