Chris Christie won't take the bait, won't answer questions about Twinkies

NEWARK, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says he wasn’t about to take the bait: a question dealing with that quintessential junk food, Twinkies.

So when asked Friday at a news conference about Twinkies-maker Hostess shutting down, the target of many a fat joke begged off.

The governor quipped: "I know it! You people are the worst! This is a setup! I am not answering questions on Twinkies, no, no, no, no, no, no. It’s bad that I even said the word ’Twinkie’ from behind this microphone."

Christie has tried for years to lose weight and often jokes about his caloric struggles. He once likened his weight loss efforts to "throwing a couple deck chairs off of the Titanic."

But Friday he said he wouldn’t provide more fodder to comedians.

"You know," he said, "I’m on ’Saturday Night Live’ enough."

with the head of the National Teacher's union Randi Weingarten as they discussed the new contract negotiated for Newark teachers..it was a love fest! But, if it works it will be great.

He's not a good fit for the GOP party and they want to blame everyone but themselves for why Romney lost.

very closely and my gut feeling is that Crist will fade away unless he becomes a Democrat.

I saw Christie giving a press conference about a law he was supporting which would change the sentencing on first time non-violent drug convictions...from a prison sentence to a 1 year residential rehab program. What he said was "If you are pro-life, as I am, then you recognize that all life is precious. That we can't just throw away these lives" Or words to that effect....While I am passionately pro-choice, he is the first politician I've ever respected for his 'pro-life' stance. Having said that, nothing on this green earth would allow me to vote for him.

Kudos to Gov. Christie... again. Might get to like this guy... in spite of his party.

He shut down the question with self-effacing sense of humor. That shows good character, something he has been displaying recently.

I still reserve judgement, and I still wouldn't vote for him. But he does have my admiration... For now.

But I do wish people would lay off his weight overweight individuals have a hard enough time losing weight without people piling on and in a lot of cases driving them to eat more from depression

But I just can't get over the time I saw him on some news show talking about cutting Medicare and Social Security and then he said something to the effect of, "See I said it and the world didn't end", or something like that. For that reason alone I just can't be on his side.
