Friday, January 28, 2005; Page C01
... Cheney stood out in a sea of black-coated world leaders because he was wearing an olive drab parka with a fur-trimmed hood. It is embroidered with his name. It reminded one of the way in which children's clothes are inscribed with their names before they are sent away to camp. And indeed, the vice president looked like an awkward boy amid the well-dressed adults ...

(111,332 posts)Yes, he looked like hell, it's the kind of parka I wore in the 70s when I was really poor.
However, he might have done so under doctor's recommendation. Remember, his health was horrible.

(115,830 posts)but that's apparently the local mode of dress, and it seems like visiting dignitaries are always expected to wear the garb of the host country when posing for photo ops. Obama can pull it off pretty well, but I remember W looking pretty silly in some of those getups, especially the Chinese one. But then, W looks silly no matter what he wears.
If Obama visits Scotland will he wear a kilt? I think kilts are hot.

(1,074 posts)From all these pics that we've been seeing the past few days of our President in Asia, can you even imagine Romney in any of them? I just can't! He is so unworldly - people around the world would not have accepted Romney so warmly. And, Trump had the nerve to say that the rest of the world is laughing at us because President Obama got re-elected! It's the other way around, Trump - the world would have been laughing at us if Romney had gotten elected!

I will say also, President Obama really dresses sharp in his suits and ties. I try to base my formal wardrobe off of him! I know in 2008, he wore Hart Schaffner Marx suits, and now that he is President, he has them specially made by a tailor in Washington, but I would love to know where he gets his shirts and ties.

(298 posts)got in July. I've started making curtains and taking in hems and seams but I want to get into actually making clothes too. I made a joke on facebook recently about offering to make President Obama's inauguration suit and how it would be great to have a genuine made in American Pres. wearing something I made. I like this pattern though, and the color suits him.

(41,991 posts)Personally, I hate that style of shirt but that's just me. If I was visiting a country and needed to wear the local style I'd do it too. I can't help but wonder how he found one that fit his long, lanky frame. But what gets me is the long sleeves and tightly woven, shiny fabrics. I'd be sweating like mad.
On the other hand, I wish I could spend my LIFE in Punjabi dress! And I love Asian inspired styles.
