I just ran across this graphic on how to free a dog from a trap on THE TRUTH IS OUT THERE Facebook page... http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-truth-is-out-there/290548914329395
I hope no one needs to use the info, but just in case:

(11,012 posts)both feet on the levers and simultaneously press... They are a little off on their syntax, but I understood what they were saying. (Perhaps the writer comes from Pennsylvania Dutch country where every one knows what "Throw the cow over the fence some hay," means.)

(332 posts)when one of my dogs got caught in one. We were at a nearby state park area and parked in a parking lot and since it was out of the way, we let our 4 dogs out. I instantly heard my corgi screaming. About 50 ft from the asphalt parking area she was caught in a trap on a little trail! First thing I did was get my other dogs back in the truck and then I was able to get her released and as soon as she was out of it she took a few steps and another one snapped her!
I was standing there scared to move myself as it was a leaf covered area and hard to see them. I did notice little twigs sticking up marking them. Got her out of the second one picked her up and carefully got back to the truck.
I drove directly to the park service office and went all crazy on them. They said "Oh yes, there are trappers who set traps in the area but are suppose to set them more out of the way than that" What the hell this is crazy, people hiking around and even small children out there. Not a very populated area but still WRONG!
