General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCNN had a story this morning where the Governor of Georgia was blaming President Biden for
the killing of a nursing student from an undocumented person.
What CNN should have mentioned, but didn't, was that the failure of the republicans to pass the bipartisan immigration bill.
In effect, the press intentionally or unintentionally campaigning for the republicans, by not telling the full story.

This is similar bullshit that was played against Dukakis when he ran for president.
We really need to get out there and push back on this bullshit, and it is way past due to start calling out the significant number of republicans in congress as supporters of the insurrection to try and overthrow our government, their refusal to work with Democrats to pass any legislation on immigration, support for Ukraine, etc.
It is very clear that this election will be between Biden and trump, and it is time to go into general election mode, because the republicans sure are.

(6,239 posts)Yes, the assailant was an undocumented alien, but the real problem is the large number of women who are attacked, and sometimes killed. I seriously doubt that more 1 or 2 were killed by undocumented aliens.
Here is a list from Wikipedia of women killed while jogging:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_killed_while_running
Note: the wikipedia list includes people from outside the US.
The real issue is attacks on women in general, but the Republicans want it to be all about blaming Democrats for a problem that's been around for decades. A problem they'll never even attempt to solve.

(164 posts)that makes them pretty much right-leaning. Way too much capitulating on their part, especially in these matters where they don't challenge the guest for making outlandish claims, which has everything to do with access, in terms of getting the liars and kooks to come on their shows.
Personally, I don't watch any of them, given what they do isn't considered real news reporting. It's all about entertainment and ratings, which I can get from watching movies or TV shows.

(11,123 posts)They can't wait two weeks before blitzing the airwaves with rebuttal and calling out the lies. The have to do it that day. And now, it has to include social media. Republicans know they can lie and make up shit because they know they won't be called on it except in Democratic fora.
Sometimes I don't think the DNC really takes this election seriously. They and the "liberal" media think they can just tell each other the truth and then they have done their job. I think of the MSNBC group that rips into trump and tears into green. They yell and posture to an already convinced audience. The DNC has nothing to say.

All Mixed Up
(597 posts)They've been hammering Republicans EVERY DAY OF EVERY WEEK for WEEKS over their failure to pass the immigration reform bill. Biden mentions it EVERY time he speaks to reporters. It's tweeted out DAILY.
What else do you want them to do?
Literally, the second most recent tweet today by Biden's campaign was his reaction to Trump killing the immigration bill.
They're all over the place screaming about this - but no one cares.
Why? Because Biden had three years, two with a Democratic majority in both chambers, to address the border issue and they never did. You can try to explain the whys and the hows but it doesn't change the fact that from 2021 to 2023, Biden's party controlled both the legislative and executive branch and they didn't move on it.
Now they are. Great.
But it's hard to get that message through when people only think you're doing it as a campaign ploy.
It's why Biden probably has to do an EO and close the border that way - or he has to risk this being an issue the rest of the campaign. But all the messaging in the world won't matter if people don't buy that messaging.
And Clinton and Carville should know. Their messaging in 1994 was so good that they handed the GOP the House and Senate in a massive landslide.

(11,123 posts)Most presidents lose seats in off years. They didn't have a "response team" then. It wasn't Clinton running the party. The DNC took over.
The DNC is filled with Washington insiders. That's supposed to help with legislation and politics in the beltway. They need to learn how to get the message on the screens (television and cell phones). What do I want them to do? I want them to do the work. Why do the republicans know how to get the screen time and we don't? Excuses won't save the country. Their very cushy and highly paid job is to win the elections. They could have learned from Stacey Abrams, but I don't recall her being called in to help the muckety mucks learn how she made Georgia work. She gave Biden the election and was ignored. She should have been asked to chair the DNC. But they don't want people from the sticks. They feed each other and fight for who gets to sit where and when. My cousin in Georgia saw Stacey and her people all the time. They were in person, in the newspaper, on television and radio. All I hear from the DNC is "send me $2 so I can sell your contact".
They are the Democratic National Committee. The have Joe Biden. If you can't sell Joe Biden against tfg, you are not very good at your job.

(597 posts)Don't fault the DNC because you're not paying attention.
On Meet the Press (NBC) today was Gavin Newsom and Jake Sullivan (with one Republican).
On Face the Nation (CBS) today was Debbie Dingell who spent the time speaking of Biden's accomplishments and hitting Republicans om immigration. She was the only elected leader on the show today (they also interviewed Netanyahu).
On This Week (ABC) was Jake Sullivan again attacking Republicans and Tammy Duckworth talking immigration.
It's not the DNC's fault you don't pay attention to what they're saying.

I'm not paid to do their job. If I were, I would learn how to do it.
Your examples would only lead to one of two conclusions. One that the Democratic Party has nothing that the public wants to hear, that the public doesn't like what the Democratic Party stands for. Or that the people you mentioned are not very good at arguing our point of view. I think the people you mentioned are fully informed, but don't present their points in ways that attract the attention of people who are so stupid that they still claim to be undecided. Newsom did a credible job, but Sullivan, while he appeals to the liberals in the crowd, only turns off those who could be swayed. He is just an attack dog.
The examples you give show the problem. The OP was about how Georgia's jack ass governor spouted crap on a CNN story. None of the examples you gave called him out. None of them called out CNN for not calling out his stupid raving. In 1950, you could just talk about your ideas and hope the camera liked you. But if you think that doing the same thing we have been doing is working, then go ahead and ignore the Stacey Abrams and her kind that are actually motivating voters and turning around elections. Just take a few minutes off from fund raising to read a script in the studio.
Again. I'm not paid, and it's not my job, but I think the point is to call every lie specifically with names and facts instead of just saying over and over that the republicans are "not being very truthful" or are "misstating the facts". Call them liars and cowards and toadies and puppets. But for each name you call them, give the things they did or said that makes them such. And name the liars.
I don't think DNC is doing a very good job of motivating voters. You think they are. We disagree.
( I saw NBC and CBS, but couldn't take another dose of Sullivan. It would have been good to hear what Duckworth said about immigration. Did she call out abbott and his razor wire? Did she talk about the "convoy" of maga truckers who took off work and drove south to defend our border from the streaming hordes only to end up grousing about the wasted gas money because there was nothing going on at the border. It was abbot's lies. Taxes motivate voters. Did she tell how the republican governors are sending guardsmen to the Texas border to fight back the non-existent hordes using thousands and thousands of tax dollars from their state?

(597 posts)But I'll end on this: I literally just showed you examples of you being wrong. Literal examples where Democrats are doing exactly what you're screeching they do. You obviously just want to complain. Well I am not going to hold your hand and continue to show you where you're absolutely wrong. Good luck.

(11,123 posts)I know a "news" network that does that all the time.
Your "examples" were addressed. Your "literal examples" were not literal. And they were not to the point of the OP.
You don't like to know what you are talking about, but talk about it anyway.
Just let it go. You wanted to pop off at a post and tried. The upshot is that we disagree. Okay by me. I still guess you will vote for Biden. I know I will. But I will know why while you seem to just go with your need to sound informed. I'll welcome that vote anyway.
There was no call for your nastiness in your first reply. You called me wrong, and when I read you post and responded, you didn't want to address my response. You just wanted to nasty up and pretend you were right. I never screeched. I just responded with facts and examples. You replied without reading what you were responding to. Really poor performance.
You shouldn't engage if you can't keep up. It shows you were absolutely wrong. There is no reason for this discord. If you disagree, just say so. Don't attack aa fellow Democrat unless you want the kind of shit fest this has become. Shame.

(119 posts)Sinclair is a right wing giant and promotes Republicon causes. The National Desk or TND just took over my Oregon area's local news and it took all of 2 minutes to hear "Democ-rat" instead of Democratic Party, and more. I won't watch it, but my wife didn't know until I informered her and most people don't know.
They lead with "the border crises" and end with false crime numbers in the "inner cities". Sinclair is one reason why most Americans don't know crime is actually down including gun murders by 12%. (I argue helping drug addicts instead of jailing them is a large reason why, in addition to Obamacare but I digress.)
Corporate news is for ratings. CBS is the worst imo but all corporate media wants a horserace so they "bothsides".
Add in over 3000 hate radio stations blaring Glenn Beck, and those Republicon liars and it is a wonder Democrats wins elections at all.
The 1980's and 1990 Democrats let it happen without a fight and we tried to tell them, back when I was politically active.
What's done is done however, so we must tell the truth to people and vote. Then hopefully change the media ownership laws if possible, which I doubt.
Beware Sinclair owned local TV stations, and ridicule people who listen to hate radio.
