What I was thankful for this Thanksgiving
This is the first time in 45 years that I haven't been able to spend Thanksgiving with my parents or my brother, but they were quite understanding of what I did instead.
I have a relative who has been battling meth addiction, and we had a chance to meet and talk yesterday. He confided in me that while other people know where to find the drug, the drug knew how to find him. He tried rehab over and over, but within half an hour of walking through the front door "clean and sober," he'd either run into a friend who was still using or get a call from someone with a little ice to sell, and he was back on the pipe again. He finally realized that if he was going to get clean and stay clean of meth, he would have to leave everything behind and start over again. After relocating to a new home 200 miles away, he's manage to stay clean for over a year and a half. He is looking so much better.
I also got to meet my nephews and niece in Fort Worth along with my sister-in-law for a delicious Thanksgiving feast. One nephew is a Marine sniper and married to a meteorology buff. The other nephew has been promoted at the restaurant where he works and is dating. My niece is married and trying to move to Waco with her husband and two kids in about a week. All are doing very well, as is my sister-in-law, who is holding down three jobs but raking in a ton of cash as a result.
And this year, I am thankful for each and every one of them.
