On the freeway this morning, beautiful German Shepherd.
Bouncing around the back of a pickup truck, looks ready to jump out at any moment.
I'm having a heart attack the whole time.
Slowed way down (pickup was speeding) to let it get as far away from me as possible.
Fuck those people. With a wire brush!!!

(21,845 posts)Dog fell out and broke all his legs. One leg had to be amputated and the poor dog was in casts for weeks.
My neighbor's take? The goddamn vet bill was too high.
These people have absolutely no capacity for learning from mistakes, for identifying cause and effect, for feeling any remorse for their harmful, ignorant actions.
He just replaced his TRUMP 2020 yard sign with a TRUMP 2024 yard sign, right along with his (Illinois Nazi) Mary Miller yard sign and his Darren Bailey for Governor yard sign (Bailey lost to Pritzker in last election).

(29,243 posts)he would put me on top of the hay stack (3 or 4 bales above the top of the cab) and have me "strap in" holding the wires of the bales to a) keep the bales from falling and b) hopefully keep me on the stack.
This was 30 miles or so from field to barn... but not at interstate speed. But not at 10mph either. This was 1960s.

(86,920 posts)Not only are they often in the back of pick up trucks, cattle dogs are often running around on the flatbed platforms of the farm truck, prancing around while cruising down the twolane. You don't go out on the blacktop without seeing at least one farm truck with a dog or two on the back.
I don't like it either but it's really common out here, not just in Montana.
Its amazes me how them pups can stay on board. I watch 'em running back and forth from one side to the other They rather seem to like it. Dont make it right
Dog lovers would not like Rez life. in my village alone, in the time I have been here: (these were all owned dogs, not true Rez dogs)
-2 dogs killed by mountain lion
-1 dog poisoned by a meth addict
-1 dog fell thru ice and drowned, her puppies were all taken by coyotes based on the tracks around her den
-1 dog hit by truck and killed
-1 dog kicked in head and trampled by horse that was pestering her
just last month came home and Xerxes the husky was accidently killed by Amy the lab. They were play wresting and her teeth got lodged in the leather collar and he was strangled. Lying dead in my front yard. He struggled so hard he yanked the teeth from her mouth

(86,920 posts)What sad story about Xerxes! My condolences!
And there you are! Been a while. I hope things are improving given the horror of the event mentioned above!

(52,172 posts)and have never had them in the back of a pick up. I did drive them in my car and was less than great about using a harness until I had a dog that wouldn't stay still. He got a harness and any subsequent ones will as well.
