Kyle Rittenhouse was driven off stage by Black Lives Matter protesters last night during a planned speech.
The 21-year-old, who was acquitted of murder for shooting dead two people at a BLM rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 2020, was addressing students at the University of Memphis.
The speech was a stop on his tour for conservative group Turning Point USA, focusing on the Second Amendment, and 'the lies of Black Lives Matter'.
Before he could deliver his planned remarks, protesters heckled and screamed, and he was escorted off the stage with his service dog.
The protesters then rushed to the parking garage, where the event organizers were parked, chanting 'Black Lives Matter!' as they tried to leave.

(50,943 posts)If someone needs something for emotional support get a teddy bear. Or use a rubber band on their wrist.
Besides if the dog was an emotional support animal then why was he dragging it offstage?
hlthe2b
(102,291 posts)allows him to take the dog places they otherwise might not be allowed. And knowing (as we all do) what a despicable waste of protoplasm he is, not sure why his abuse of that sweet dog would be a surprise.
Perhaps someone who knows how he came to own the dog can report the behavior to the source.

hlthe2b
(102,291 posts)that ensure they are both trained and "certified" in some manner-- similar to service dogs-- to preempt some of the manipulations of the system (I don't know what Rittenhouser's situation is but his brazen jerking of the dog when he abruptly decided to leave certainly is a bit disturbing--certainly not how I'd expect any dog to be treated, but especially either an emotional support or service dog).
Disaffected
(4,555 posts)quite a separate issue. And sure, if they are to be taken on planes, restaurants and similar places, there should be a level of cert.
Rittenhouse is almost certainly an outlier but who knows? It would not surprise me that someone twisted like him would have serious emotional problems and would benefit from a support dog of some kind.
hlthe2b
(102,291 posts)even if I had not seen that video and his angry response that led to his dragging the dog, nor firmly believe that he is an unrepentant murderer. Perhaps NONE of us deserves dogs and the wonderful beings they truly are. But, Rittenhouse may well top that list. My compassion lies with the dog and far less with that human monster, that is true.

(3,544 posts)But I have anxiety problems. He should have guilt problems after murdering 2 people. Personally, I don't think he should have any animal since he caused his problems and he doesn't care about human life why would he care about an animals life.

(66,386 posts)'Emotional support animals' are a scam to allow anybody, for any reason, to bring their untrained-poorly socialized yappy dogs into areas where they shouldn't be, and we're supposed to excuse their disruptive behavior, their shitting and pissing all over everything, and so on.
What we need is a cental controlling authority that sets training standards, access regulations, etc, just like real, actual service dogs have.
Jilly_in_VA
(9,983 posts)A central authority that sets training standards and registration for service dogs would be a great thing and I think that people who really need and use these dogs would appreciate it.

(3,404 posts)I don't understand the strategy to have Kyle Rittenhouse speak in Memphis to begin with. It seems the organizers were hoping for a protest or riot of some sort. Could it possibly be to increase publicity for Rittenhouse who is broke and looking for legal defense funds?
Ocelot II
(115,732 posts)They set up these speeches by controversial right-wing assholes like Rittenhouse for the express purpose of attracting a protest, and when there is one they whine that they were "canceled." It would be a whole lot better way to react to this fuckery by ignoring it. They don't want to be ignored; they want to be protested.

I didn't see anyone in that audience who supported that POS, so why was he there? I imagine he was paid from some student fund, so whoever controls that fund should be dealt with as well.

People forget he dropped out of high school in 9th grade. His whole story about going to Blinn College so he could transfer to Texas A&M was probably a lie or wishful thinking. Even junior colleges like Blinn require a GED and I doubt Kyle has passed the test.

(182,826 posts)The take advantage of colleges having open debate. They get some student group on campus to request an appearance by a controversial speaker. They hope it gets rejected by the school. If that doesnt happen they hope theres a protest. They knew this would happen to some extent so this little twerp was going to walk off as soon as it started.
maxsolomon
(33,345 posts)For this express purpose.
If the speech goes off as planned, that works too. Spread the propaganda to young minds.

Sympthsical
(9,074 posts)Toilet Paper USA counted on the vigorous protest that occurred. They can now hold it up as, "See? Free speech is being shut down by the radical Left on campus!" It's suits their narrative, and they picked precisely the kind of person who would generate it. Find someone to be anti-BLM who would be so offensive, the protest pretty much organizes itself.
What would have better served would have been ignoring Rittenhouse entirely. Who was going to show up to this thing otherwise? Two dozen or so students at best? Now they've got controversy, press, and a narrative. Rittenhouse gets the publicity.
It's a mutually beneficial arrangement. The Right gets to play persecuted, and the Left can say, "Ha, we shut him down!"
Everyone wins.
Or no one wins. I can't decide, honestly.

(5,351 posts)and he's saying that "antifa rioters" showed up to shut Rittenhouse down because the left hates free speech.
Sympthsical
(9,074 posts)Is ignoring him. His events, such as they are, have seen a consistently steep decline in attendance. Anything that reinvigorates focus is a win for him. Making the Left mad is the point of the exercise. They were thrilled by that protest. Imagine the devastation if no one cared. That would be so demoralizing for them.
And then he'd have to actually get a job, whatever that may look like. Not sure what skills he's bringing to the table outside of goober.

(2,025 posts)I often think of that scene in 2020 in Kenosha as a mass shooting. And the police just stood there and watched it, and did nothing to stop the perpetrator, and not only didn't arrest him, but didn't even try to prevent him from leaving the scene. And when they finally tried him, I got the feeling it was just a sham trial that they HAD to have because of all the furor over the shooting, and that the acquittal was pre-ordained. How could they acquit him in the face of all that video evidence of the murders and dozens of witnesses? There really is something about that event and its aftermath that stinks to high heaven. And that boy ought to be in prison right now, doing hard time. He is a murderer. And that he is instead a celebrity in right-wing circles attests to the moral character (or lack thereof) of right-wingers.
