https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/king-charles-given-2-years-154317463.htmlLess than two months after Buckingham Palace confirmed King Charles III was diagnosed with cancer, sources exclusively reveal to In Touch that the king is battling pancreatic cancer and has been given two years to live.
While the royal family has kept tight-lipped about the specifics of Charles illness, including the type of cancer he has, a source exclusively confirms to In Touch that the kings diagnosis is known to be an open secret among royal staffers.
Many courtiers believe Charles cancer is worse than theyre making it out to be, a second insider adds. Even before the diagnosis, there were concerns about his health."

It's gut wrenching to watch and so much worse fir the patient. I remember going through chemo thinking I was lucky it was just ovarian and not pancreatic.

(22,264 posts)I lost a good friend to it. Her first chief complaint was back pain. After a number of failed solutions to the back pain, an MRI revealed a fracture in her spine - which indicates metastis. An oncologist friend told me her primary was either lung, liver or pancreas , and that the bone fractures are not primary
Treatment then was much different than now, but even now her case would have been difficult due to it being so advanced

(11,588 posts)Both King Charles and Princess Katherine at the same time is unusual. When looking at websites that discuss how genetics and lifestyle influence the numbers of new cancer cases I am struck by how these factors don't explain what is going on here.
Both have active lives, excellent care, and an advantage most others do not have with access to healthy eating.
Cancer is increasing in a younger age group, too, so what else might we look at? Pollution perhaps? Poison in everything and everywhere?
Most of us know someone who has suffered cancer. Some have died and some are survivors, and I sure hope the answers we need are just around the corner.
And a cure.

I've seen speculations it was bladder cancer, but it hadn't been announced until now, and only a couple places have said it was pancreatic.
He has been a heavy drinker, so that did make me wonder about pancreatic cancer. Not that alcohol causes pancreatic cancer, though. Who knows how any person's cancer starts.

(11,770 posts)One of my best friends just opted for radiation rods in her eye to hopefully kill the same cancer that killed my husband in 2002. The doc caught hers earlier than my husband's. But, she could have gone for eye removal, to totally eliminate the cancer. She is blind in that eye anyway, but going for the 95%. The doctors didn't know my husband's cancer had metastasized. It's a very aggressive cancer. I am just so very worried for her.

These statistics are from a study which included over 35 000 people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 7 countries.

(1,161 posts)The sooner you catch it, the easier it is to combat it, as is the case with most kinds of cancer.
That I got a uterine cancer diagnosis and treatment for it at stage 1 undoubtedly saved my life. Every stage after that would have been exponentially more difficult to treat.

(111,274 posts)The UK is moe enlightened, they allow patients to treat their own pain. When patients control their own drug, they tend to use less of them, whether it's the bottle of multidrug formula in the UK or a patient controlled IV pump here. The difference is that the UK doesn't have an upper limit.
So while the pain of end stage pancreatic cancer is horrific, he will be medicated to the point of not caring.
Warpy
(111,274 posts)whichever is better tolerated by the individual. It contains cocaine so it is a little less sedating. Sometimes it contains alcohol, which acts to boost the opiate's action. He, unlike us USians, will get adequate pain control.
I certainly didn't spare the drugs when my own mother died, at the age of 94 she was in no danger of going out to boost car CD players in an attempt to feed a habit.
We are incredibly stupid about pain control in this country. Most doctors don't know how to taper their patients down and the DEA would be breathing down the backs of their necks if they tried.

They found it while it was still in the pancreatic head and performed a Whipple procedure, and now she is having chemo to kill the micro-metastases. She has a good prognosis. (28,079 posts)He went into the ER because he thought he might have a kidney stone & was diagnosed within a few hours. The scans he had that ay showed it had spread to his liver & the ER doctor's only comment was "Your primary doctor can help you deal with the pain." They pretty much sent him home to die.
Not one to sit idle he was down at Mayo Clinic within in a week (the advantage of living just 80 miles from it). They managed to keep him going for over two years. At one point, the liver tumor was no longer visible. He was on chemo pretty much the whole time, but he tolerated it well and they were even able to do some of the traveling they had planned to do in retirement.
I have another friend who is currently in the same situation. Stage 4 pancreatic with spread to the liver, but her liver is now showing "no evidence of diease". Her doctors are optimistic that they can reach a point where her disease is more of a manageable chronic condition.
So, progress is being made with pancreatic cancer, but there's still a long way to go.
