"You've come along way baby" some might remember the slogan for cigarettes ...

I just stated watching Shirley on Netflix and thought ...The women and all the marginalized people have come a long way since the 60's.
I know this was ad slogan to entice women to smoke a particular brand of cigarette, but the people are winning... bit by bit. Back in the 60's I had an uncle and "his friend" which were accepted in our family, with some whispers I later learned, nothing was out front back then.
In so many ways and on so many fronts we have come a long way. It might be women's rights, racial equality, religious equality, sexual equality, we have made progress. It is good to remind ourselves and those around us that progress is being made. It might be a slow pace and we should thank those who pushed the limits.

We have made real progress. And now we just have to insist that the 20-30% knuckle draggers in our midst not succeed in their wish to drag us back into the past.

too many young and old are fighting for the same beliefs. I hear the news stories about the young being upset with the deaths in Gaza, climate change etc. but us old people are right there with the young.

than there are of them. And there is no reason - other than apathy and defeatism - that they should prevail in our democratic system.

Keep pointing to the people responsible for hacking Roe v Wade to the ground - and make no bones about having their sights set on Medicare, Soc.Security, and contraception. All things that 80% of the people in this country ardently support and defend.

there should not be any generalization as they have done with polls. We're all in this together, at least some of us who do not fall easily in line with the party line as Repubs have done. When the party is wrong you need to speak out. People should not be aligned with a party who strays from their beliefs. All good

And if I remember correctly, I think I kind of have an ear for old jingles and stuff from 50 years ago or however long it was, to get to where you got to today you've got your own cigarette now baby, you've come a long long way.

Virginia Slims is a cigarette brand developed by Philip Morris in 1968 and marketed exclusively to women. Its early advertising campaigns exploited civil rights movements of the '60s with the slogan, “You've come a long way, baby,” a slogan which has lasted into modern times.

with ads to buy stuff, back in the 60's TV dinners etc. We feel inferior if we cannot give our kids our kids the latest, I'm beyond that point thankfully! Through all of the commercial gains people still made gains, too slowly though.

I was nobody's fucking baby, not since I'd outgrown the need for diapers. In addition, giving myself COPD and heart disease, not to mention completely ruined skin, didn't appeal to me and I wondered why those male admen thought it was a winning slogan to get women addicted to their sthinking, reeking product.

back in the 70's and now the rage are plant based products, the new buzz words so to speak. Just buy the raw the materials and cook at home, pain in the ass sometimes! We're always being sucked into the latest good for us/environment by those looking to make a profit.
