Mike Gallagher Screwed GOP Leadership On the Way Out
March 25, 2024 at 10:35 am EDT By Taegan Goddard
His successor instead will be chosen in the general election. That means House Republicans will be hamstrung by his departure all the way through the end of this Congress.

(113,860 posts)That would not stop just because he switched parties. The threats might even escalate.

(81,594 posts)Well worth remembering as a handful of Republicans back away from their party. Have ANY of them gone over to join us Dems? Or are they hiding behind the "Independent" label (from which they could just as easily vote for another GOP'er as they might, for a Democrat).
That doesn't work for me. There's a slang saying I love: "is you IS or is you AIN'T?" Pretty much sums it up. Either you're WITH the Democrats and you're not waffling around, or you're playing coy, and, seems to me, being downright deceptive.
OnDoutside
(19,986 posts)only one good side in all this, and still they play coy.

(16,880 posts)Turning the knife into Mike Johnson's heart and his very slim majority.
Perhaps the Crystal Ball shows more resignations that will have to wait for the General Election, thus giving Democrats the majority and Hakeem Jeffries the Speakership. Wouldn't that be just dandy?

I think that it's more than screwing Johnson. They are rebelling against the magat takeover and the best way to have impact is to do what he and Buck have chosen. Give Buck five points for deciding to be the first to openly flip them off leading the way for others to do the same. The threats are about which votes they do or don't make, not about resigning.
It's a public protest, the powerless or less powerful in the cult have only one option when they disagree, resign.
It will be interesting to see what damage they ultimately bring upon themselves. I just hope it's swift and decisive. We have no time to waste in getting our country moving forward instead of languishing in this mire of swamp scum and industrial-strength political filth they have drug us into

(686 posts)Gallaghers departure is one. That leaves two more. If two more leave, Jeffries will become speaker. We could see some lightning fast legislation.
I know that is all wishful thinking, but given the current chaos, it isn't impossible.

(16,636 posts)Given the current chaos, this is not at all unlikely, imo.
Can't wait to find out who the other two are!

(183,008 posts)He worked for a pharmaceutical insurance plan. We used to talk and email about client billing issues.
I hadnt heard from him so I called. His phone was forwarded to his supervisor. His boss said he basically did an Office Space thing - he knew he was leaving. He didnt log in to their system for a month, he loudly proclaimed when he was going on a break (cube world) which he did A LOT, and then he started calling meetings
hed wait for 5 minutes for everyone to get there and then hed come in the room and tell everyone EXACTLY what he thought of them. Clothes, weight, perfume, makeup, job competency etc. right around the room.
He kept calling these meetings (sometimes with repeat attendees) and they kept coming and he kept dressing them down.

(12,666 posts)He asked each one how much would it take for them to quit? His only condition was that they not return to that company. The boss said "I cant believe you're screwing the customers like this" And he said "This company has been screwing US for years> Maybe now you'll think about making changes".

(19,204 posts)have they been getting from House republicans anyway? They've done absolutely nothing.
I think that's the reason for Gallagher's big 🖕 on his way out, too.

(11,475 posts)In Appomattox, Virginia, on April 9, 1865, Robert E. Lee surrenders his 28,000 Confederate troops to Union General Ulysses S. Grant, effectively ending the American Civil War. Forced to abandon the Confederate capital of Richmond, blocked from joining the surviving Confederate force in North Carolina, and harassed constantly by Union cavalry, Lee had no other option.
This would make a good yard sign.
4/9/1865, Never forget.

(8,533 posts)I'm loving it. Gallagher stood up and said all the right things on J6, and stuck to it, but he wasn't much better than most of the MAGAts. The 8th CD won't be out much.
