Oh well, at least its one way to rid ourselves of the bible.

(111,264 posts)from the eastern Mediterranean forms the mythic base of US, European, and other cultures. It contains some thumping good stories and some great poetry.
It also contains a lot of pure idiocy, so as the inerrant word of an omniscient deity, it sucks.
I'd never want to get rid of it entirely, any more than I'd want to get rid of The Iliad and for the same reason.
Ancient literature has to be taken with a pound of salt. The problem isn't the bible, it's the morons who haven't read it through and wave it around like some sort of talisman.
And I still think TFG is most likely hawking bibles he harvested from his hotel rooms.
(ETA: Nitpicky note to the guy in the above video: spheres don't have tips. Tennessee might be the asshole of the country right now or it can be the dinner plate sized buckle on the bible belt or it can be the biggest outdoor lunatic asylum, outpacing Florida. It just can't be the tip of a sphere, those don't have tips. Maybe a spike protein on the surface of a deadly virus would do better)

(15,943 posts)I dont really want the bible banned. As they are just stories passed down by word of mouth and then the written word. Its unfortunate that we need someone to interpret all those stories with a political agenda.
Plus a bonus round of science as Rainbows exist whether anyone believes in the bible story of the flood. I can create rainbows every time I water the plants. However, I did know someone who believed wholeheartedly that rainbows only existed because of god.
A rainbow is an optical phenomenon caused by refraction, internal reflection and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a continuous spectrum of light appearing in the sky.
