Biden derangement syndrome is on full display within the House Republican caucus as Republican Rep. Dan Meuser from Pennsylvania went on Fox News to rail against the Biden Administration for considering using federal funds to help rebuild the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. This bridge was the one that collapsed earlier this week causing major disruption in one of the nation's largest ports.

Meuser want on to argue that Biden should cut funding for climate-related programs like supporting electric vehicles to be able to rebuild the bridge.

(118,682 posts)sad would that be for Republicans. Maybe Maryland would have to take money from social programs in the next ten years to pay for it. Is that what is making Republicans sad? The lost opportunity to exploit a crisis?

(3,860 posts)Although it did carry I-695 across the Patapsco River. It's part of the Federal interstate highway system.
I get what Biden was saying, that the federal government foots the bill to make sure the project doesn't get stalled out like so many Republican sponsored things do. Ultimately, the company that owned the ship that hit the bridge has insurance that will cover the cost.

(6,182 posts)I-695 is part of the Interstate Highway System. It's perfectly reasonable for Federal funds to be used in it's repair/replacement.
The beltway provides a way for I-95 traffic to go around Baltimore, and thousands of commercial vehicles using I-95 crossed the Key Bridge each day. They'll now have to be re-routed due to the bridge collapse.
This will have a profound, lasting, negative impact on Interstate Commerce.
Of course Federal funds can, and should be used to rebuild that bridge.
