(1,161 posts)You do realize that the Democrats aren't the GQP--they can multitask...right?
Anyway, Roe is a better issue to run on than 100% of whatever the ideological purity crowd wants to lose on.

(63,912 posts)I can't think of a better issue to run on.
If you are saying that Roe was not the best pro-choice policy to run on, that Roe was too flawed or that it should have been decided (as Justice Ginsburg said) under "equal access under the law," I would agree. And I also note that the Biden campaign is expanding the voice of women on reproductive rights and doing so loudly. In that regard "Roe" is a kind of shorthand for a panoply of reproductive rights issues, as we have seen. The Biden campaign is listening to women's voices.

(22,357 posts)Roe was a shitty policy. Running on the promise of "restoring Roe" is shitty. People didn't get the abortions they wanted when Roe was in effect. People died under Roe. Roe has a made-up deadline when the right to an abortion expires. Using "Roe" as shorthand is garbage communication.

(63,912 posts)I used to work for Planned Parenthood (as a fundraising manager). The medical staff told me stories about the real lives of their patients and I would tell their stories in my direct mail appeals. Here in CT we had, of course, a proud history of the fight for reproductive rights. I am so glad I was a part of it. I won't forget the protesters yelling at the women who came to our PP facility. Some, of course, were there just for gyn care that, indeed, prevented unwanted pregnancies and the protesters knew that but didn't give a damn about their lives.

(19,201 posts)90% of voting age women know what "Roe" is all about. 100% of Democratic women, and probably 80% of republican women and independents.
I'd say 70% of voting age men know what "Roe" means. Close to 100% of Democratic men, and probably 40% of the knuckle draggers and independents.
I could be wrong, it's happened before, but I don't think those percentages are too far off.
It's the most important issue in this election, and Democratic women are going to carry the day for Joe Biden. As always.

(1,161 posts)They've spent over five decades trying to get rid of it, after all.
Where have you been not to realise that?
