(73,559 posts)agreeing with you ...... years ago, a large group of very vocal, mean, and nasty protesting human beings surrounded Governor Mario Cuomo at a local airport. They were speaking in loud voices that by definition could be deemed yelling or shouting, without allowing him to answer in a meaningful way. Being younger and stronger back then, I made my way up to him. There, I spoke to him in a friendly and respectful way, about pretty much the same issue the angry crowd had been screaming about.
For some reason, the crowd became quiet enough that most people could hear our conversation. Then we shook hands, and off he went. As I turned to leave, some of that very crowd of angry citizens said rude things to and about me. That was a bit of odd, considering that most of them were Democrats or members of the Democratic Left. I had recently moved to that county, and few knew me yet.
The next time I saw Governor Cuomo, it was he who made his way through a crowd -- this time friendly -- to again shake my hand, and tell me that he appreciated what I had done at the airport. He said it was "brave." (I hadn't considered it to be such a thing, as there was only about 100 of them, and though I was retired from the ring, I could still do a fuck of a lot of damage, fast.) We talked for a bit, and he told me how to get a letter directly to him.
In the following year, Chief Waterman and I met in Governor Cuomo's office to discuss burial protection & repatriation issues. A bit later, his attorney called me at the mental health clinic where I was employed. The governor was planning to create an Office of Indian Affairs, and they wanted me to come to Albany to discuss a job offer. I thanked him, but said no thanks.
Because this comes too close to agreeing with you for comfort, I'll say that I wish that good people exercising Amendment 1 would study Dr. King. A silent "prayer-in" would speak louder than shouting. And due to my feeling that this comes too close to agreeing with you for comfort, I'll stick another donation to AOC and Ilhan in the mail today.

On 28 March 2021, 13 Jews were forced by the Houthis to leave Yemen;less than 10 Jews still resided in Yemen. According to one report there are six Jews left in Yemen: one woman; her brother; 3 others, and Levi Salem Marhabi (who has been imprisoned for helping smuggle a Torah scroll out of Yemen).
The Jerusalem Post reported that the remaining Jewish population in Yemen consists of four elderly Jews, ending the continuous presence of a community that dated back to antiquity. In December 2021 the Jews of Yemen received Hanukkah kits. In March 2022 the United Nations reported there is just one Jew in Yemen (Levi Salem Marhabi).

In the early 20th century, Jews in Yemen numbered over 50,000; today, there is one Jew left. There are reportedly a handful of hidden Jews in Yemen who have converted to Islam but secretly practice Judaism.

Last month, Code Pink circulated a video showing Pelosi telling a Code Pink protester, Go back to China, where your headquarters is.
Pelosi was referring to a New York Times investigation that revealed extensive ties between Code Pinks co-founder, Jodie Evans, and groups promoting the agenda of the Chinese Communist Party.
That exchange took place on Oct. 29, coinciding with the one-year anniversary of the attack on Pelosis husband, Paul Pelosi, which left him hospitalized with severe injuries. The attacker, David DePape, told investigators he sought to hold Nancy Pelosi hostage.

(25,373 posts)U.S. signs off on more bombs, warplanes for Israel
Despite a widening rift with the Israeli government, the Biden administration continues to authorize the transfer of 2,000-pound bombs and other weapons
The Biden administration in recent days quietly authorized the transfer of billions of dollars in bombs and fighter jets to Israel despite Washingtons concerns about an anticipated military offensive in southern Gaza that could threaten the lives of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians.
The new arms packages include more than 1,800 MK84 2,000-pound bombs and 500 MK82 500-pound bombs, according to Pentagon and State Department officials familiar with the matter. The 2,000-pound bombs have been linked to previous mass-casualty events throughout Israels military campaign in Gaza. These officials, like some others, spoke to The Washington Post on the condition of anonymity because recent authorizations have not been disclosed publicly.
The development underscores that while rifts have emerged between the United States and Israel over the wars conduct, the Biden administration views weapons transfers as off-limits when considering how to influence the actions of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
We have continued to support Israels right to defend itself, said a White House official. Conditioning aid has not been our policy.
