Men punching random women in NYC: A desperate last gasp of the male rage fueling MAGA
Random NYC attacks are an extreme manifestation of men feeling entitled to women's time and attention

(Salon) Men are punching random women on the streets of New York City. As usual with these kinds of diffuse and chaotic stories, there's much that is unknown, including how often this is happening, how many people are involved, or whether it's at all coordinated. But what we do know is already alarming. CNN reports that dozens of women have discussed being victims on social media, and formally interviewed six of them. NBC News reports there have been at least 3 arrests. CBS News reports that NYPD released images last week of a fourth man wanted for allegedly punching a woman in Union Square. Even reality TV star Bethany Frankel says she's been victimized.

Women report being assaulted by men of different races and ages. Still, across the different stories, a couple of similarities pop out: The alleged victims are mostly young and pretty, and most of them say they were minding their own business when they were attacked. Some were on their phones or reading on tablets. Others were speaking to friends or daydreaming. Whatever they were doing, they were just living their lives, and that, it seems, is what enraged their assailants.

These stories resonate, as well, because the nation is having a moment of increasingly unhinged male fury at women for daring to have lives that are centered around something other than catering to a man's every whim. Unleashed by Donald Trump and the MAGA movement, there's an upswell of loud male entitlement shouting at us from every corner.

But there's one big difference between the male tantrum we're experiencing now and the backlashes of old: This time, women aren't really playing along. A few, maybe, especially if they can get a piece of that sweet "tradwife" income. But, in the past, backlashes tended to draw large numbers of women along, or at least convince them to silence their opinions, lest they be labeled a "man-hater." In the more conservative parts of the country in the early 2000s, it manifested as widespread shaming of women for having sex before marriage, from abstinence-only "education" to purity rings. But it wasn't great in more liberal areas, where women put up with hipster sexism to get the prize of being called a "cool girl." .....................(more)

But the mysogony right now is out of control on the Right.

I've written before about my video feeds on both Facebook and Youtube being inundated with far right anti women videos. I down vote, I unfollow, I even report. And for a while, perhaps a week I will be free of these videos, but then they'll pop back up. I think because I watch some boxing, fishing, auto repair, home improvement, sports, and MMA videos, the algorithm then wants to show me Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson, Andrew Tate (especially Andrew Tate). No matter how many of Andrew Tate's videos I unfollow or report, he keeps appearing in my feeds and some of them will be stealth Andrew Tate videos where you won't know it's him for 15 seconds. And I continually get these round table videos with 3 or 4 dorky looking men basically telling 3 or 4 pretty women on the other side of the table who make their livings from Only Fans that they are damaged goods and no one will want them now. It's disgusting and I unfollow and report these videos. There's nothing I can do to get away from mysogony on the internent, I don't know if it's my profile, my likes, or it's just random, but I can't escape it. There is definitely a campaign that is being funded somehow, because it costs money to get all of this content in front of peope like me. And it doesn't stop at mysogony, I am fed plenty of homophobic and transphobic videos too and I am publicly an advocate for LGTBQ rights. Like, anyone who kows me knows I have marched with LGTBA friends and family. And there's a fair bit of racism too, and anyone who knows me knows my best friends are minorities.

And the stealth mysogonistic videos are something else, they'll loop you in with some things that you might agree with and are interested in, and then it ends up being abut how women havng power is not the natural order. It's disgusting.

So I think these random attacks are part of some prank that kids are doing, it's awful. It's not exactly MAGA, but some of it is, and the mysogony is coming from the Right right now and is absolutely out of control. It's not a last gasp either, and it's going to get worse before it gets better. The Republican Party and conservatism are aghast at women having control over their own lives. And the trends in that regard are really setting them off. More women are graduating college than men and more women will be getting CEO gigs and other powerful corporate positions. There's a trend of young single women who own their own homes now, young single women are buying more homes than young single men right now. So they see what this means long term, women controlling more of the wealth in this country. A good portion of the GOP is still of the mind that women shouldn't have any rights, to see all of this is jarring to them.

The men arrested have been in their 30's and 40's. MAGA calls Don Jr. and Eric kids, and they're also in their 30's/40's. How old do males need to be to be held responsible for their own actions? How old before they're not rambunctious boys with their "pranks" punching random women in the face?
