Somewhere around the time that the 24 hour news cycle became a thing, we became obsessed with minutia that just should not matter.

3. It might well have been the LAST time Americans watching TV were riveted to the same thing...

I remember that I was staying at a small hotel in Santa Fe, NM, getting dressed to go out for dinner with friends when I noticed some nonsense on TV in the background breaking into the live coverage. Well, while I can't say it would not have taken me an hour to get dressed and ready, regardless, I certainly didn't leave the room until it ended.

I don't know that I was as "addicted" to the trial and coverage as the average person (I was working, after all) but the horror of what had happened and that OJ appeared to be involved was an incredibly riveting story--and then, however silly, the slow Bronco chase had the potential for compounded tragedy.

Would I watch it now? No, of course not. But, admittedly it was riveting then.

I can picture the furniture in the living room, the old TV, my kids (8 and 4) watching Family Matters. My daughter (the 8 year old) doesn’t remember.

Every time I came over there he had that trial on. He knew people that knew O.J. in SF and didn’t have nice things to say about him so he enjoyed the torment O.J. received!

Watching the TGIF shows on ABC (Family Matters, Perfect Strangers etc) when the Bronco chase interrupted. I was riveted and they kept wanting to see Steve Urkel.

I had a c-section and had an incisional infection and had to be rehospitalized for IV antibiotics.
My NY Rangers had just win the Stanley Cup and I was watching the Knicks and Rockets game when they cut into the game to show the Bronco chase. I really didn't want to watch it because I was afraid someone would end up getting shot on live TV and that's really not my thing. So I started changing channels and every one, including Univision was showing the Blanco Bronco. I just shut it off.
I hope OJ goes to the hell I don't believe in.

It was just how the media and people in general reacted to it. But I do think it was amazing media wise for the instant coverage it got. I was working in newspapers then and I'm sure we had every TV in the newsroom with that on and we were watching the wires for news.

Always seemed to me a declaration of guilt. How does this ever get explained away? I don’t mind being corrected on this point, please, if someone has a clearer understanding.

This was back when we were charged by the minute to be online.

We chatted about it for a while, but we got offline after a bit because none of us wanted to pay $$$$.

One of our friends forgot to log out and she ended up being charged something like $600 dollars. I think she appealed to CServe and got it knocked down to around $300.
