Hamas official who sought endless war after Oct. 7 says it could put down arms for 2-state deal
A senior member of Hamass Qatar-based politburo said in an interview with The Associated Press on Wednesday that the terrorist group is willing to agree to a truce of five years or more with Israel and that it would lay down its weapons and convert into a political party if an independent Palestinian state is established along pre-1967 borders.
However, in separate comments published by the London-based Arabic paper Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, the same official, Khalil al-Hayya, indicated this would only be a temporary stance and that the Palestinians retain their historic right to all Palestinian lands.
Al-Hayya also specified in the AP interview that the envisaged Palestinian state would necessitate the return of Palestinian refugees to todays Israel. The Palestinian demand for a so-called right of return provides for up to six million descendants of refugees entering Israel a demand dismissed by Israel as seeking to destroy it as a Jewish majority state.
Al-Hayyas comments came amid a stalemate in months of talks for a truce and a hostage release. The suggestion that Hamas could disarm appeared to mark a potential departure by the terror group, which is officially committed to Israels destruction.

Take a chance on a five-year ceasefire, or is it just a modern Versailles Treaty?

(18,774 posts)4. He hasn't said anything to this yet
however as long as
Palestinians retain their historic right to all Palestinian lands.
I am guessing it is a nonstarter.
I don't see Israel accepting a deal that ends its existence.

(5,537 posts)3. After they turn over all participants in 10/7, agree to Israel's right to exist
And drop their ridiculous demands about Israel having to release terrorists negotiations can begin.

Hamas is getting nothing, Israel is not going to reward them for burning women and children alive.
The deal is release all hostages for a cease fire.

(9,436 posts)6. Put down arms for how long?
And what is the two-state solution? One for Hamas and one for Fatah?
I would need some clarifications before I take any hamas official seriously. Like how many hostages are still alive?
