(32,139 posts)All the rhetoric is being set up to praise the President if he merely *refrains* from taking this or that additional bludgeon to the poor and middle classes.
This is how far we have been suckered to the right. We drown in a sea of platitudes about austerity, validation of Republican framing and lies, from neoDemocrats, as though we should be grateful and consider it a great victory if we can just elicit from our Democratic President a promise not to ATTACK us in one way or another. We are suckered to welcome and celebrate a new round of austerity, as long as we get a promise that *certain* attacks on the poor and elderly may not be included.
We are urged to be grateful for the withholding of a specific blow, but convinced that the larger beating is inevitable.
What we are owed is a complete change in rhetoric and in direction. We are owed passionate, public acknowledgement of the truth about how we have been looted and robbed and impoverished for 30 years, with all of our wealth going to a few greedy pigs at the top. And we are owed a clear plan not just to refrain from certain types of further assaults on our mothers and fathers and grandparents and children and neighbors and friends, but to REVERSE the crimes that have already been perpetrated on millions of us.
Instead, we are fed more garbage right-wing rhetoric about "shared sacrifice" and taught to be grateful if we are merely spared certain particular, additional swipes of the axe.

(982 posts)you should post this as an OP.
WE need to do so much more that just reverse the Bush tax cuts.
Why are we letting the Republican party's most corrupt losers ever & the most absurd corporate media full of lies and propaganda the world has ever seen....lead the discussion after WE WON THE ELECTION?

(32,139 posts)And Congressional Democrats? Time to let go of the denial. We have a problem, and it is not just with Republicans.
And the only answer to it is to RAISE HELL.

"And the only answer to it is to RAISE HELL."
We cannot wait and see what they might do...
We need to verbally tar and feather their asses into doing what we want them to do in a preemptive strike right now!

Why do they keep saying that? The fiscal cliff point is spot on.
The Bush tax cuts expire in exactly five weeks.

"How pathetic, when we are reduced to begging a Democratic President not to HARM the poor."
Imagine how Japanese Americans felt in the 1940s.
Remember: "Make me do it."
That's how it works..that is unless you think after the election citizens should do like Romney and go to Disneyland?
Advocacy, activism and pressure works wonders.

(2,404 posts)...would even be an issue. There are no words to describe how I (and many others) would feel of the President caves on this issue. These safety nets are the hallmark of our party and define us.
I know that there are some DU members that find this position extreme. That only tells me that they have no idea what it means to be a Democrat.
I am already scared that the President will negotiate these safety nets away. If he chooses to do this, I will flood this board with criticism until I am removed.
There is no compromise when it comes to the programs that put the people ahead of the filthy rich.

(12,958 posts)INCLUDING public opinion. All the republicans have are threats of destruction. Let the republicans play their game of chicken. It will haunt them in 2014, and they will fold in the end.

(15,438 posts)Only now progressives are breaking through with the evening line-up of MSNBC and CurrentTV, and the event of social media. Republicans have more money and heavily gerrymandered districts since 2010. Democrats (under Obama) have a stronger marketing strategy that we will need in order to force our message out.

(10,611 posts)It's really annoying when the blogosphere thinks it knows better than this POTUS about what it takes to play the long game in Washington.
The 'cave' meme is ignorant. IT proves people weren't really paying attention to what happened in 2010. Reading David Corn's breakdown might help - if people wanted to actually KNOW.

(35,389 posts)suggesting means testing of Medicare. Why are Democrats coming up with compromises while the Republicans are going the other way? WE WON THE ELECTION They already means test SS, if you have a total income including SS, pension and/or IRA of just $34000 for a couple or $25000 for a single the additional income is taxed along with your SS. I have to pay a higher income tax rate than the 1% does on that additional income. Now they talk means testing Medicare will that mean those of us that went on strike and sacrificed for a good pension or worked our ass off to save for retirement will be penalized again?

He wants to cave. The only question is how much and how fast.
