NY-16: Debate devolves into snark-fest between Bowman (D) and Latimer (D)

NEW YORK — Sniping, snark and incessant interruptions defined the first televised debate in one of the country’s most competitive primaries Monday night — underscoring the pivotal role the Israel-Hamas war is playing in Democratic politics.

Rep. Jamaal Bowman, a member of The Squad, and centrist George Latimer spent the first nine minutes of the hour-long matchup clashing on U.S. support for Israel as they compete for votes in New York’s heavily Jewish 16th Congressional District.

During the fiery face-off in a suburb just north of New York City, Bowman also charged that Latimer sees him as “an angry Black man” and each Democrat linked the other to Republicans.

“George Latimer has taken money from AIPAC, who also supports Republican candidates,” Bowman said. The pro-Israel lobby contributed more than $600,000 to Latimer’s campaign as of February, according to federal election filings.

“You want to go to Washington and play nice with Marjorie Taylor Greene?” the two-term representative asked Latimer at another point.

1. Can anyone tell me why Latimer is a "centrist"? Not familiar with him.

And "taken money from AIPAC" isn't an answer. Always the word "take" to make it sound corrupt. A few thousand dollars freely donated doesn't corrupt anybody.

8. There's a legal limit for PACs to individual candidates of 5,000 a year, I thought.

"TAKEN." How dramatic. Probably something about a PAC supporting Latimer.

problem, and I mean that in regard to his views about Jews

Playing the “AAPAC” money card as though there is something evil about that, while Bowman has no problem appearing with Hamas supporters, and having fund raising with those groups. Interesting hypocrisy there

Look at that absolute hypocrisy. Hamas lovers and their money are just fine according to the dirty money squawkers.

9. You are right. However, Representative Bowman did not hide from the fund raiser for him by Nihad Award, a CAIR leader

distract from the issues in that district that should be debated

What has evolved in this race is the divisions between the factions within the Democratic Party, and we have six months to unite if we want to win the election.

I am concerned we may have another 2016 convention redux, and that would be very bad.

My hope is we can unite against trump, and not get swayed by other issues.
