Defeat is only temporary, Brown said.
As Brown well knew that night at Bostons Park Plaza Hotel, his opportunity to regain a U.S. Senate seat could come in a matter of months rather than years.
With Sen. John Kerry widely believed to be under consideration for a Cabinet post, the Bay State may be compelled in 2013 to hold its second special election to fill a vacated Senate seat in three years.
If Kerry does join the Obama administration, state law calls for Gov. Deval Patrick to appoint an interim senator to serve until a special election is held between 145 and 160 days of the seat being vacated.
Brown has not publicly said whether he would seek a return to the upper chamber, but close observers of Massachusetts politics have few doubts that the politically gifted, charismatic, and generally popular Republican would strongly consider a bid to duplicate his special election victory in 2010, when he claimed the seat long held by Ted Kennedy.

(40,169 posts)but it's the job of Massachusetts Democrats to make sure he doesn't get elected to anything.
Warren Stupidity
(48,181 posts)Rove funded him and directed his hugely awful campaign against Warren and in the process wrecked his carefully constructed image. He was abusive and nasty from day one, and he got crushed by Warren in the debates. I think he is done at the state level here.

(11,464 posts)John Kerry needs to check his ego at the door and just say the Sherman.

(10,942 posts)that he won't seek re-election in 2014, that way Massachusetts democrats can run a 32 year old Joe Kennedy III for the seat. After Kerry is done, a President can appoint him to what ever the shit She wants to appoint him to.

(40,169 posts)Gov. Patrick and John Kerry come to mind. That would leaves major offices open.

(10,942 posts)once elevated to Governor will pick a new Lt. Gov. A US Senate or House seat vacancy requires a Special Election within 6 months of the vacancy. Massachusetts is in strong shape with the Governor's position, Timothy Murray is an exceptional Lt. Gov and should be able to hold the seat.

(10,942 posts)Warren won because she stayed close to Brown in those two counties and beat Brown by big margins in Suffolk and Hampshire Counties.

(14,400 posts)Massachusetts has it's own Linda McMahon. Fortunately for us though we were able to keep ours out of the Senate in both runs.
I hope the Dems will be smart enough up there this time to run someone a little better than Martha Coakley.
Thinkingabout
(30,058 posts)Duh, they tried to move Beraud from Louisiana but he was smart to their dumb tricks, they would ha e removed a Democrat from Congress. Always playing games, bet if Ted Kennedy's widow runs Brown would get beat. I imagine there are some good Democrats left to run also, don't count your chickens yet Scott

(10,942 posts)Tierney had serious issues winning re-election due to him being married to a woman who laundered millions of drug money right under his nose. Tierney was personally innocent, but that issue would clobber him statewide. Markey has been in the US House for something like 24 years and would come off as old opposite Brown. McDermott is a decent campaigner, but over a limited area of the state, he could not match Brown across the state.
