Atlanta police release body camera footage of judge's arrest after incident with officer

ATLANTA — Atlanta police have released body camera footage of the moments leading up to the arrest of a Douglas County probate court judge.

The video, released Friday night, shows the confrontation between an off-duty Atlanta police officer and Judge Christina Peterson at the Red Martini bar in Buckhead.

There was an argument and fight in an area outside the lounge. When an officer got involved, he said the judge hit him. She said it was an accident.

Police say Peterson shoved the officer in the chest. The video then shows the officer wrestle her to the ground and handcuff her.

Witnesses say Peterson was trying to stop a man from attacking another woman.

Maybe a full ethics law for all judges. Lock this judge up for assault. Ten years seems fair. Even since trump judges came on the scene, things have gone sideways.

when she was trying to break up an assault against a woman, by an off-duty cop no less seems a bit heavy-handed.

Did she even know he was a cop since he was off duty and not in uniform.

There always seem to be details overlooked in cases involving Black people and cops. Bet the cop is white.

At most a few months. There aren't ten year sentences for this.

But, it appears the judge did not assault anyone. Self defense and protecting someone being assaulted is not a crime. Unless you are black. And teh person who is attacking a woman is an off-duty cop.

Did you read the story in the link? Witnesses say she was attempting to defend another woman who was being attacked. Sounds like there needs to be a bit more investigation before she gets her 10 year sentence, don't you think? Oh yeah, and yes, she is Black. Doesn't look like a Trump judge to me.

She shoved the officer which is a no-no, but not worthy of a decade behind bars.

Of course he handcuffed her, and not the off-duty cop who attacked a woman. The off duty pig was able to escape because of this. Gotta protect their Blue Line Bros

You're correct that the judge is Black, and the arresting officer appears to be white. However, I don't think this is a case of racism or police brutality. The footage does not reflect well on her.

Also, she's already been voted out of her position due to numerous ethics complaints. She appears to be a troubled soul. I hope she gets some help.

Was escalating the incident to wrestling a woman to ground and handcuffing her necessary? And he wasn't even on duty.

Force isn't always the answer. Did she even know he was a cop?

The video is available online. I watched several minutes of it. I saw a melee of people, a police officer subduing somebody, and then this judge hurling herself at the police officer. And her behavior got worse after that...

I really recommend you watch the video before commenting further.

"DOUGLASVILLE, Ga. - She must go. That’s the unanimous recommendation from a hearing panel investigating Douglas County Probate Judge Christina Peterson.

The first-time judge has also been the subject of several FOX 5 I-Team investigations since she took office in late 2020.

The three-member panel for the Judicial Qualifications Commission decided Peterson is guilty of "systemic incompetence" because she ignored courthouse rules, abused courthouse personnel, made inappropriate posts on social media and, in repeated cases, failed to do her job.

The extraordinary decision to remove Peterson follows four separate hearings starting in September 2023 where Peterson had a chance to testify and confront her accusers. She faced 30 counts of misconduct.

The one that troubled the panel the most involved Peterson's decision to jail a woman for simply trying to amend her marriage certificate to include the real name of her recently discovered father."
