It's getting down to "fish or cut bait" time.
Will our President protect the land and people of which he serves or will he capitulate to the trans-national corporate profit margins?

(66 posts)It is not the pipeline itself.
Piplelines can be very safe if operated well.
Pipelines are far more "environmentally friendly" than huge unit trains of coal, which also applies to the way oil products were moved in the old days. By long steam powered trains of tank cars.
If you want to heat your house, turn on the lights, drive an automobile, ride a train, fly a plane --- your're dependent on pipelines.
Nope. The problem with Keystone XL isn't the pipe, the line, or its construction.
The problem with Keystone XL is that it will encourage the further development of Canadian oil sands, probably the most ecologically harmful dirtiest energy EXTRACTION process mankind has ever tried, certainly on large scale. Think of what they're doing up there as burning huge amounts of very dirty coal to power a coal mine.
Well, unless you're a whale, destined to be whale oil.
Which until John D. Rockefeller (evil monopolist that he was) perfected refining safe, non-explosive, "Standard" kerosene, was a whale's fate.
Thare she blows. Pipelines rarely do.
