I just got home and heard the awful tragic news that everybody is talking about.

Richard Simmons passed away. God Bless him and his family. Other than that, not much else going on. It's a slow Saturday night.

I saw a documentary about the mystery surrounding what was happening with him.

I don't remember hardly anything about the film I just remember it was still really a very strange situation. I still don't know what happened to him.

I think it was partly motivated by The Howard Stern Show and they did some light-mocking of him. For many years. Kind of added to his meme-like public image. Just a theory.

Sounds like they kept the news quiet for nearly a month.

On June 12, 2024, Gregory and his service dog were found dead inside a car at a Chase Bank parking lot in Peoria, Arizona. He was 46. The news was kept private until July 11, when the cause was still under investigation. His sister said he had bipolar and sleep disorders, and likely died of heat stroke after falling asleep in his car.

He was a sweet man, with a stellar staff. I’m heartbroken. There are reports he fell in the bathroom last night and was found by his housekeeper today. If so it’s all too common a cause.

He was just getting back into the public eye. I’m truly sad.

Hit your head hard on the corner of a sink or door in the wrong spot, and that's all she wrote. My mother in law falls a lot, she has Afib and they think that's causing it.

It was so amazing to see a video that my students could relate too. The message was so awesome--firstly that message of 'I see you," and then his acknowledgement that kind of said-(and I'm basically paraphrasing the entire gist of the show here-certainly not quoting him) but basically; ''I know not all of your parts work, but we're gonna have fun working the parts that do and I'll show you how to enjoy that."

Then he lead the kids on a really awesome exercise routine and you could see how much he cared about the kids in the video and, by making the video, he showed he cared about my students too.

He was a good person. I had told myself I should send him a note and thank him and I never did (despite thinking, "I should send him a note," EVERY time I saw him in the media for the last 15 years or so). Another reminder not to put things off too many times.

RIP Richard Simmons. I know your thing was exercise but you were a prime example of how to stand up to bullies and be yourself.

Rather than a certain former game-show host.

https://people.com/tv/shannen-doherty-dead/

BTW, when a friend called me to tell me to turn on the TV, I started playing "do you know who the president is?' every time the reporter misidentified the convicted felon's current employment status.

Watching the footage, I've been struck by a few things:

1) He did that ultra-annoying thing where he turns to one side of the podium, in this case, his right. (I think it's an affectation to make it seem like he's personally and confidentially addressing a certain part of the crowd.) So the side that got injured was actually facing backward, behind the stage. Not sure where the shooter was relative to the stage, but did that save his life?
2) In the footage as the Secret Service agents lead him off the stage, he's leaning very heavily on the female agent, and he's insisting on getting his shoes. Understandable, but, God help me, I couldn't help but wonder if the secret of the shoe lifts and his mysterious lean could somehow be gleaned if someone got a close-up of the abandoned shoes.
