Reminder: George Wallace was not helped by a botched attempt.

So lets not grind our teeth over today's events.

?w=620

In a still taken from CBS television footage, a gun, center, held by Arthur Bremer is fired repeatedly in the direction of presidential hopeful Alabama Gov. George Wallace (not pictured) during a Laurel, Md., campaign rally, May 15, 1972. Wallace was paralyzed as a result of the shooting. Bremer was a 21-year-old former janitor and busboy when he shot Alabama Gov. George Wallace five times during a presidential campaign stop in 1972 in Maryland. Now 57, Bremer is preparing for life outside prison. He's scheduled to be released in mid-December 2007 and could get out even sooner.

Reagan was shot in March of 1981 less than two months after he became president, so probably no effect at all on the 1984 election.

because she hadn't chambered a round. Apparently she didn't know how to work it. Her motivation had something to do with saving the redwoods.

They both spent many years in prison and were released after Ford's death. There were two attempts. It doesn't matter if there were shots or not. Would-be assassins are going to spend many, many years in prison, shots or not.

Squeaky Fromme got all the attention. Apparently Moore fired and missed. Someone prevented her from firing again.

Fromme got all the publicity because of Manson. She did the time for many years, and so did Sara Jane Moore.

Fromme was paroled after 34 years, in 2009. She is 75 years old. Sara Jane Moore was paroled after 32 years, in 2007. She is 94 years old. Ford died in 2006.

Wallace, other than MI and MD, was a purely regional candidate in the primaries. When he was shot he was completely taken out of the campaign. Do really think that is going to happen after tonight?

his campaign--- and was a famous segregationist running in a more liberal Democratic party, to boot.

Still, I don't think Trump is helped too much by it with voters whom he doesn't have already....

And if they press gets too worshipful, they need to be reminded that Trump has often sought to incite violence, and some former capital police officers are now dead because of that trait.

Hey--- love the username! Invoking two pieces of classic literature at the same time....
