When Black brought a birthday cake out Gass, he asked his bandmate to make a wish, garnering the response: "Don't miss Trump next time."
In a statement shared on Instagram, Black said that he was "blindsided" by the statement as he also announced that he was pulling out of further planned shows.
"I was blindsided by what was said at the show on Sunday," Black wrote in his statement. "I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form.
"After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold."

(13,072 posts)Incredibly dumb on Gasss part. Unfortunate for the rest of the band and the tour audiences.

(91,698 posts)Jack Black didn't make the joke, his bandmate did, and he's condemned him for it, says he was blindsided when presenting him a birthday cake and asked for a wish.
What do you have against Jack Black?
TheProle
(3,291 posts)1. Title is actual title of linked story
2. Jack Black is the subject and cancels is the verb, and that is correct
3. I have nothing against Jack Black and am actually a fan
Why do you feel the need to pose as a pedant with poor reading comprehension skills?
bigtree
(91,698 posts)...by the rag that invented it.
Black's recent flamboyant support of Pres. Biden attracted thousands of rw detractors on twitter and elsewhere.
I'm not really surprised this rag employed this deceptive title, as it probably wouldn't get much of a look if they correctly identified his BAND MATE as the offender in the header.
Lol, thinking this is fandom.

Seriously done, no doubt.

(3,291 posts)you are obviously posting in good faith.
I addressed your issue above:
2. Jack Black is the subject and cancels is the verb, and that is correct
3. I have nothing against Jack Black and am actually a fan
I'm sorry if you find this unsatisfactory, but this concludes this particular discussion with you.

(91,698 posts)...I think the bickering upset some folks.
Taking that under consideration. I am much older than I'm young, and I'm a bit grouchy.

(39,033 posts)This isn't LBN. When I read the title, I thought it was Black himself who made such a joke.

And, especially recently, most DUers respond to the title as if it were true, without reading the posted content, let alone the linked content.
There would be a lot more productive, fact-based conversations if people wrote captions that reflected the actual content.
Polybius
(19,459 posts)It comes across as misleading to not use the actual title.
Ms. Toad
(36,213 posts)At least once a day (generally more frequently) I encounter massive threads reacting to the title of the thread (alone), as if it was fact, when it is - at best- a misleading figment of the title editor's imagination and, at worst, a blatant lie, added fir click bait.
In many instances, the content of the post included by the OP directly contradicts the title given by the publication. But way too many people on DU react to the title of the OP, without reading the content, so the title should be factually accurate and but misleading, even if the source provider wrote it solely to generate clicks.
Polybius
(19,459 posts)I blame someone stirring up the pot.
Ms. Toad
(36,213 posts)Should be using the title of an article as the title of the OP, not to this discussion.
And mostly what I'm seeing isn't shit-stirring. It is confirmation bias based on the misleading or factually inaccurate title given to the article by the title editor's writing which is focused far more on getting clicks than on conveying information. Those misleading click-bait traps should not generally be used as part titles here because all they do is magnify the spread of misinformation.

The title looks to accuse Jack Black of the inappropriate remarks.
Still wondering why you don't change the title, so... not liking that.

(21,609 posts)Is whenever I post an article I always use the given headline regardless of which forum I am posting in.
Maybe the OP does the same.
TheProle
(3,291 posts)It's not a difficult concept to understand, but that will never stop little doggies with their little bonies.
bigtree
(91,698 posts)...it's deliberately misleading to get clicks for the rag that produced it, and I think to draw outrage to Jack Black, who has just recently made a big show of his support for Joe Biden.
All of that catapaulted here, ostensibly, from the reply I read, in the name of fandom.
Truly fantastic defense of the title, though. Thanks for the opportunity to rebut them.

(15,522 posts)But if I were inclined to stick with given headlines, I would refrain from posting articles that had misleading headlines. Or, at the very least, I would comment on the fact that the headline is misleading. Failing to do either of those things means people will comment on the misinformation, as they should.
yardwork
(65,828 posts)I posted about that, upthread. But I never thought it was the OP who was at fault or trying to be deceptive.
Maybe step back a little? We've all noticed that the MSM is not on the side of truth or justice. This is another example.
Most DUers are not the enemy.
bigtree
