That being the stock market.
Its booming right now. Once the Fed cuts interest rates, its going to skyrocket and continue that way if there is a belief that more rate cuts are on the horizon.
Its going to be hard for the rapist/felon/fraud to argue he could do a better job with the markets.

(37,656 posts)Have little influence on the stock market, per research over time. The moment he touts where it is, it could drop and then people will blame him.

(1,364 posts)history has shown us your post is absolutely true. That said, Biden should take credit for it as much as common sense and political acumen will allow. God knows his opponent would.

(2,508 posts)Middle income and low earners don't care about the stock market. They care about their mortgage interest rates and the cost of ground beef. You're correct in connecting stock success and overall financial health and an eventual interest drop- but a lot of people just see whats right in front of them- we need a good ole fashioned interest drop ASAP. Since inflation rates have finally taken a significant drop I hope that happens soon and if it does we'll see a new narrative that will benefit President Biden greatly.

(1,121 posts)My wife and I do, so we appreciate them going up. But I agree that presidents get too much credit and blame for how the market is doing. Not to say they don't have some influence, but a whole lot of stuff unrelated to them really drives the stock market.

(37,656 posts)By law they are independent of the Presidents influence.
The current expectation is that there will be a rate cut in September. But that depends on how inflation goes.

(5,886 posts)You know what happened last election cycle right? Stocks tanked from ATH's in August/Sept.
It took @ 2 years to get back the value. I am convinced it was done on purpose not just to lock in profits, but to cause pain and suffering to the middle class and possibly drive down donations. The hedge fund managers may well be looking to do it again. The 2 weeks of Biden bashing saw ATH's. Now it's "correcting". Biden isn't stepping aside and last night Trump fell asleep at his convention.

STATE the FACTS! Don't let his lies not be countered.
USE the FACTS! For every lie he puts out there, hit him with more truth - you know, THE FACTS!!!!!
Yes, it's ugly that somebody tried to shoot him (thanks for the 'gun' legislation, REPUGS!) but that does NOT give him a license to LIE - not that any shooting ever stopped him before. SHOW HIM NO MERCY!!!!
And President Biden STATING THEM (yeah, he certainly should have done that in 'the debate') is NOT BRAGGING, it is TELLING THE TRUTH (gawd, something IQ45 wouldn't recognize!).
GO GET HIM, JOE - SHOW THEM THE FACTS!!!!!!
It's not "SHOW ME THE MONEY!" - it's "SHOW THEM THE FACTS!!!!"

are not likely to move the needle. The majority of Americans dont own stock, the more the market goes up, the more angry many get.
If inflation actually goes down or slightly up, prices are already so high. People really want to feel a difference. They wont unfortunately.
Low unemployment numbers frustrates the majority of Americans because they are already working and all too many live week to week.
Democrats are more educated than republicans and can understand these advantages. Not much so for republicans.
The reason the needle hasnt moved the polls. Democrats are shaking their heads asking themselves why the great economy isnt moved the needle.

(430 posts)The whole economy is BOOMING!!!!
Have any of you traveled lately? Every plane, hotel, cruise ship is jam packed with people. My airport, Pittsburgh, has seen record numbers. The boomers have an absolute TON of money from the stock market, and they are spending it. Everyone is spending money. Everyone has a new car. New construction around here is unbelievable.
Biden needs to talk about the economy. All day. Every day.
